I searched for a thread relating to this but couldn't find one so here goes, I may be missing something obvious or commong knowledge but why is Autopia always closed? If its seasonal, why is it seasonal? For what reason(s)?

Also what attraction is that I heard was built but has never opened, I have heard rumours but am unsure about any more information regarding it! Any answers would be appreciated!

From what I've gathered it has alot to do with the weather and the cost of running it. But this is only what I've read.
Try searching around dlp-guidebook.de it's a dedicated DLP site and the folks on the boards are both nice and knowledgeable.:D

The weather is cited as the main reason (cold and wet, no one wants to ride) but it is a VERY labour intensive ride - and DLP can`t delegate the manpower year round needed like they do in the US Parks.

In peak season it helps keep up attraction availability, and thus keep queues down elsewhere.

That kinda sucks really doesn't it because it looks, IMHO, a more unique setting for the attraction compared to its sister, the Floridian TLS! Shame...

Oh, I don't know. We could have seen something like a ride based on a Grand Prix and you would take a vehicle from the '20s and you would start in Paris and work your way through Europe up the Alps and then back to Paris through the Arc de Triumph. That's just off the top of my head.

Sounds good if you ask me, but doubt anything much will ever happen to Autopia now? I mean on my past four visits to DLP it has never been running, an indoor version would have been a great idea!

There are a few for your question! Geyser Mountain, Discovery Mountain (what is now SM), the unbuilt Water Coaster, Voyage of the Little Mermaid or B&tB dark ride! For more info check this out!

Are you refering to an attraction that was supposedly completed but never opened?

I love the F-Files! I wish they would update more regularly. Great column! I'm still waiting for the story about the Jungle Cruise with jeeps instead of boats that was mentioned once.
Do you have any information on the unbuilt water coaster? I have been looking around but no luck.

As for as DLP's speedway, in a perfect world where Disney spends like the OLC, they would tear down the speedway and put in Mysterious Island from Disney Seas! The themeing would be perfect and DLP would finally get Discovery Mountain.

Hmmm.. never heard of a built but unopened ride.... the only one I am aware of is at Epcots Japan Pavillion (and that was only partially built) - Unless you are thinking of Geyser Mountain - the rockface and geysers to the right of Phantom Manor were originally the start of the mountain (a path would have lead from the cemetery, along the waterline, to the mountain. Again, budget, and the idea of ToT going in the studios (GM and ToT use the same technology) meant all we have to remind us of what might have been are the geysers.

I know the Indiana Jones EMV ride from Disneyland was going to go in Adventureland, but budget cuts held it back. Maybe this is where the jungle cruise jeep story came from (TWDC always stated there would be no JC at DLP)

I also believe the water coaster was DLPs Splash Mountain - not neccesarily Song of the South themed - but taking its traditional position on Rivers of the Far West / America with the final drop facing the castle. There was talk of going for broke with it and implementing hybrid water coaster technology (think Journey to Atlantis at Seaworld) instead of floating logs.

Thanks for the water coaster info Marni!
Isn't the new coaster at DisneySeas also rumoured to be a hybrid water coaster (with a combonation of DLP's Indy coaster as well).
I think Gyser Mountain may have been what DieHard was thinking of as well.
