Hello guys! This is my first time making my own thread. I hope I don't get in trouble. If this is a double post I am so sorry! But anyway, I am going to WDW on 8/19/09 untill 8/25/09. I am very worried about the weather. I know it is hurricane peak in Florida...But how is the weather? Is it really rainy? Do the showers go as quickly as they come? Are hurricanes a real threat?

We usually go down in August and the weather is always hot & humid. It almost always rains everyday, but it passes quickly and then right back to hot & sticky :hurl:
We have always been lucky to miss the hurricanes though we have weathered a few tropical storms. Hope you have a great trip

We have also been there in August. It is hot, it is sticky, but it's still disney for me and even though I sweat like a waterfall, I love it. The saying goes ,"if it's raining it must be 2 o'clock", the storms form over head build up sometimes a light rain, sometimes a downpour, sometimes somewhere in between, but the longest I've ever seen was about 25 minutes. In fact it rained when we had gone back to our room for a nap, and we didn't even hear it, but the place was drenched, so we knew that there was heavy. But no matter what there's still so much to do even if your at one of the parks, enjoy what is there with or without the rain.

Very hot, very humid. Rain is almost guaranteed daily.

I've been the last two years in about the same time frame and absolutely loved it! Drink plenty of fluids and don't worry about the rain, even if you get drenched to the bone, it'll dry off fast once it stops. [Women should probably avoid white tops without bras... :lookaroun]. Bring and use a high-SPF sunscreen, I'm a sun-worshipper, but the Florida sun in August is way too intense even for me.

Crowds are fairly manageable and you'll be able to do most everything you want.

We'll be there 22-30 August, see you there!

ha..ha..ha...I was planning on bringing my white skirt, probably still will but I'll be wearing boxers underneath. I actually thought of not wearing it to AK because I always get drenched on Kali but I guess that's not the only time I'll get drenched. Glad you reminded me of that or people would get a nice glimpse of my pink flamingo panties :eek:

Well, I'm no expert when it comes to Florida weather, but I have a feeling that 2009's August weather will be a little bit better than August 2008's conditions.

I visited WDW Aug. 18-23 2008 and pretty much got soaked on all but two days. Tropical Storm Fay made a slow path up Florida. Althought it rained a lot, still had a lot of fun.

Yeah this is pretty much right. Unless of course a storm does go through. Not bad though all things considered

We were there last August too, just at the beginning of Fay, we left for home on 20th. It was very hot, but we were prepared for it. Light clothes, ponchos and plenty of sunblock are a must. There was a quick thunderstorm just about every day

We were down a few of years ago while a hurricane was off the coast. It came in bands and was quite nice as it was cooler and the bands would last 20 to 30 minutes. The kids thought it was great getting wet. We will be down the first week of August and I am wanting a cloudy week.Have fun!

If we can manage a trip back in before school starts, we go in August. The price seems to be cheaper. I will tell you that it is HOT and HUMID. Expect showers in the afternoon occassionally. The come and go very quickly though. We have been atleast 20 times in August and it always seems to be the same. If you can live with the weather, its really not that bad. Just take lots of breaks in the ac and drink plenty of cold beverages. Besides your in Disney and thats fun in itself.
Enjoy your trip!!

We got hit w/ Hurricane Charlie when we honeymooned there in August 5 yrs ago, but we're going to chance it again this yr for our anniversary. It's usually just an afternoon rain and muggy ... not too bad.

Don't worry about the hurricane threat. While always likely this time of the year, we've never felt that it was enough of a threat to plan around the possibility of a storm.

Growing up, we went to Florida more times than not during the first week of August, and I can only think of 1 storm during that whole time. In fact, my grandparents went for 31 straight years and stayed at the same place near Daytona, and they never ran into much. We did survive Hurricane Erin back in 1995. The *funny* part was that it was supposed to hit the Miami area so everyone was driving north on I-95, but as we drove closer and closer to Orlando, the hurricane moved further and further north. It ended up hitting around Vero Beach. The plus side - it was a Cat 1, but the park was pretty deserted. I will never forget riding BTMR in the rain with the clouds circling overhead. It was absolutely facinating to watch WDW batten down the hatches, too. Of course, we had to deal with rain and humidity, but it wasn't that bad.

Plan on rain just about every day. Usually not an all day rain, just a typical afternoon storm.

Have a great trip!

even with the rain, you'll have fun. I just recommend going to a store like target or walmart (or whatever you have where you live) and buying a cheap poncho to take with you. I love disney, but they're over priced in the parks. This way when everyone is hiding from the rain you can easily get to where you're going. I carry a lightweight backpack just for my ponchos so after it rains i stick them back in there incase it rains again.

It will be hot while you are there.
There will be afternnon showers while you are there.
There will not be a hurricane while you are there.

Hey eveyone! Thanks for ALL the awesome posts! Btw, how do you know there will be no Hirricanes? Is that something they can tell so early?

You've already decided to go then, so what's the point in worrying?

Oh, yeah. Trip was paid for months ago. Adrs are perfect. I just want to have the perfect trip with my boyfriend and my best friend. It is the first time I have planned a trip as an adult and I am just a little nervous. Thanks.
