August or September 2014?

We are going to go to WDW next year, and we've decided that it will either be in the last week of August or the last week of September. I'd prefer to go in September, as it's around our anniversary, but we're flexible. Our biggest concern is that we want to go during a time when there are fireworks, parades, and limited (or no) refurbishments going on.

Initially we were set on September, but seeing how many refurbs are being scheduled for September of this year makes me concerned for September of next year.

Any thoughts?

I would think September would be a little better. It may be a little cooler (though not much) for one, and at that time nearly every kid will be in school, though if you go at the end of August kids will still be in school. Rates should be about the same. Its only a few weeks difference but you might get a few shorter lines and maybe about 5 degrees cooler weather if you go then. Not much difference though. Im sure between all of us on here we can put you in the right direction on which to choose.

I just refuse to go in the summertime. The first two times I went I was miserable. I still had fun though but man its so hot and Im used to it because I live in the south. Ill just pull my kids out of school for a week and do it in a cooler month, though still hot enough where you can ride the water rides. I guess in Florida its hot all year for the most part though. Ive been watching the average weather for our trip in January and its still an average temp of 75-80. One thing you need to watch is the precipitation though. It rains less in the cooler months, and you don't want your trip messed up by the only thing in Disney that Walt could not control.

I would go in late September. I love going around that time. I went during October a few years ago and it's my favorite trip to WDW :) Sadly, school keeps me from going in the fall now :/ There are less crowds and cooler weather in September, which are two of the biggest deciding factors. I would watch the refurbs that happen in September so you know what you are going to be missing though. Good luck and have fun! :)

Late September is my pick. For one, FL has horrible storms, as I live here, and it usually eases up during late september. Everytime I have gone to Disney this summer it has rained! :( But if there is lightning involved during the summer, it is CRAZY! No outdoor rides, which means all of the indoor rides, completely packed. Peter Pan was a 1 hour wait! I have never seen it over 45 minutes, and so was a small world! It's cray cray! o_O Anyway, September is also a plus since school is out! Well, in Florida school is already in session, and about most of the country is in school in late august. But, there is always some states that start in September, but I think it would be perfect for Late September. Not as much rain, shorter waits(usually), everythings good. Hope you enjoy! :D

Also, check the weather reports for late September. The rain season for FL officially ends in early November, but the crowds will start getting a tad bit bigger due to the holidays.

we were there from 7 sept for 3 weeks last year and the weather was really nice, there were some hotter days but mostly it was comfortable it did rain a little bit too but that really wasnt to much of an issue for us :)
the parks were pretty empty and we didnt wait over 25-30 minutes for any ride.
i would go again that time of year in a heartbeat it really was perfect for us

Go September. The crowds are not bad at the end of August, but they will be better in September when all the kids are back in school.

You shouldn't have a problem with fireworks or showtimes as they show year round. Park hours will be reduced. I don't foresee a great difference between refurbs in September vs. August. This is a little unusual for this many rides to be closed at once.

September, although the "light crowds" is quickly becoming a thing of Yesterland. We usually go in the middle of September but this year it will be the 20th-26th. Luckily we're leaving right before Food & Wine so we'll miss those crowds.
