The hours seem pretty normal to me. They don't really change until the fourth week of August when most everyone is back in school. The reason for the change is that most places are in school and the crowds are down. When the parks close earlier it means crowds are down and you can see just as much, if not more, than when the parks are open late. Even with slightly shorter hours you should still have a wonderful trip. In september normal closing times are like 6:00 but you can still see most if not all of the park.

I have visited Disney nearly every year since 1985 and every time has been in August except two. The posted hours are normal for that month. We always go the second week in August and find the hours with the crowds manageable. If you are going in the latter part of August, I don't think you'll have a problem seeing everything even if they close earlier because the summer crowds will be gone.

Hope you enjoy your trip!!

You should consider yourself lucky, because these are the best August hours in years. I go in August every year and I would usually get 7 PM Magic Kingdom closings.

thanks for the support on the august hours. i am so confused by the many times i been there in july i feel confused by weird hours but thanks for the heads up. i just wouldn't be too dissappointed as long as SGE would be open for previews when i am there that would be nice. a nicer thing would be to use mine and my stuff stitch for some good use considering we are both celebrities there maybe it could work to get us on the ride LOL too long of a shot right???

I think these August hours are better than most years because Labor Day is happening so late. Now in my neck of the woods (NJ), kids don't go back to school until the day after Labor Day, but in other parts of the country, as some of you mentioned, school starts in mid to late August (on the flip side, I believe those schools finisht their years earlier than ours around here). Because the summer season started and is ending so late this year (remember, Memorial Day was the 31st which is as late as it can get), WDW may be anticipating more crowds this year. I, for one will be happy if they are wrong, the crowds dwindle but the parks keep their scheduled hours. Add an E-Ride Magic Night or two in late August-early September when I'm going, I'll be happier than an invisible man in a Victoria's Secret's dressing room...well, ALMOST as happy.
