August 2006 trip

I'm taking 3 newbies with me during the 2nd week of August. My question is this...about how bad are the crowds? I'd imagine they start dying down at this point. I know the weather is going to be hot and humid and I've prepared them for this, but I've never been there in early Aug so I'm not sure on the crowd situation. I know it's going to be busy, but hopefully not as much as June or July...right?

July is extremely busy. August calms down somewhat after the Florida kids go back to school, but it's by no means slow! With careful planning - you know the drill (arriving at the parks early, using Fastpasses, etc.), you will still have a great time, crowds or not. Just make sure that your newbies are LISTENING when you tell them how hot it's going to be!

Have a great trip!

We are going the third week, with my parents. Getting my dad going in the morning is going to be a challenge...

(thinking about all the times throughout the years where we missed church, arrived late at dinners, missed teetimes, even nearly missed a flight while waiting for him to get ready...)

Our remedy? If we have to leave at 7:30 am for something (Ex: Crystal Palace Breakfast w/ Winnie the Pooh at 8:15), we are going to tell him we need to leave at 6:00am. Then we have a chance at being on time :)

We're there August 1st for three weeks :sohappy: I'm expecting it to be busy for the first full week and then dying slowly there after
The family and I were there the 3rd week of Aug. It seemed that at least in MK in the morning it was not crowded for about and hour and a half, which seemed strange to us, we rode BTMRR twice and SM twice in about 20 minutes. By almost 10:45 it started to get crowded. But EMH are really tough, when we went to get our wrist bands it seemed that they could not give them away but everybody goes to the most popular rides and make the wait very long. As for hot........ well for me it was uncomfortable because I sweat very easy. So if some one in your party is prone to that they may not have the best time, but I didn't care, just took a couple of extra large bandanna's and it was ok.

We go in August almost every summer and the crowds are still up though not as bad as July. We still had to do the Fast Pass and some lines were still very long. We did EMH for the MK (this was the last week in August- last year) and had to leave early. Lines were very long (some rides had almost an hour wait) and it was impossible to walk thru the MK without getting stepped on. The lines for food were very long too.

EPCOT & AK weren't too crowded but MGM was. *shrugs*

Best of luck and hope the newbies enjoy thier trip!

August really isn't too bad, for me weather is just perfect, but I am a floridian. The crowds die down quite a bit since the kids are back in school by then, but some families do come down for a pre-school starting vacation. If someone isn't a morning person, try just having them meet you somewhere if they're not ready. they shouldn't be bothered by it, because why should you guys wait for them. We did this with one of my sisters and it worked great. Didn't have to hear her complaining.
Have a fun fun time!

We'll be there the first week of August... anybody know when schools start?

Last summer, the Orlando kids were back in school the second full week of August. The first week is still pretty busy in the parks, but nowhere near as nutso as July!
