Attractions With Features Which Are Not Operating

I had just returned from a trip to WDW, which had been my first in over 6 years, and noticed two things that have me wondering about WDW's maintainance program.

The first is a feature on Splash Mountain. After the scene on the right with Brer Bear caught in the rope trap, a scene on the left used to feature Brer Rabbit hopping along with his belongings wrapped up in a blanket, tied to a stick, proped over his shoulder. That scene was not working.

The second is in The Great Movie Ride. During the Gangster scene, a car emerges out of the tunnel on the right with it's occupants' grinders shooting away. On this trip the car was static on the outside of the tunnel.

Because I had not seen these features in quite awhile, I was just curious as to whether this is now the norm or if it was just a fluke and these features are now operating.

Does anyone have any information on these features?

I've noticed both problems. The rabbit effect seems to work about half the time and I can't recall the last time the gangster car worked.

thats like when you go to the store in the Canadian Pavillion there are animatronics near the back of the store. I pointed them out to my brother saying something like 'hey, those are cool' as they were moving around'. The guy working there said that was the first time in his 2 whole years of working there that hes seen them work.

I get a lil dissappointed when i dont see things working well but try not to let it get in the way of my fun.

I'm happy to say that the last few times I went on GMR, the car was working! Yay! You're quite right, it hasn't worked for some time. I was happy to see it!

Ok peeps...

If you wanted to see the "gangster" scene, you need to sit in the rear set of ride vehicles. If attendance does not fill both ride vehicle sections, then you will only see one "scene" (gangster vs. Western).

Secondly, why in the world would WDI design a AA that can NOT handle a full-ride capacity? They designed the capacity! They put the sensors in place. If it doesn't reset before the next log... then it works for the log behind that. Think of how many scenes at different attractions that do just that. Sorry; I can believe high-repair costs vs. 'can't handle attendance'.

I've seen the car in the Great Movie Ride not move a handful of times. Sometimes it just happens.
The car will not move if you are in the first section of the ride-vehicles. It will just idle and the AA's will just sit there looking out. This is so the scene sequence re-sets for the people behind you. When you're busy watching the fire come out of the Western scene, the people behind you are stopped... watching the shootout in the gangster scene.

I've never seen any of these not working on these rides - unless I was being silly and not paying attention (again)

What doesn't work at Disney? Many of the great classic arcade games at Disney Quest. I'd rather have played Galaxian than see Brer Rabbit hop!:lol:

Yikes something must be wrong with me (again)

I was not refering to simply passing through the Gangster scene, I was refering to experiencing the show itself.

I was already aware that the first 2 cars experience the Cowboy show while the last 2 cars experience the Gangster show.

So, while sitting in the 4th car, approaching the Gangster scene, prior to the scene's show starting, the gangsters' car was already sitting outside of the tunnel. The scene commenced and concluded without any movement of the car at all, just the shooting of the gun from the figure inside of the car.

In the summer on the GMR the ride car itself malfunctioned. We had to be escorted off be CM. Fortunately when were in the final Movie theater and did not have to go too far to the exit.

Funny you say this because we also just returned on Saturday. Our first day we spent at the MK. As we were riding Splash, I pointed out to everyone that the hopping Brer Rabbit AA was not working. We went back a few days later and rode it again, and it was working again. But i did notice another thing.... after the small dark "coaster-like" drop, you see the turtles and the hopping water that goes over your log. When we first rode Splash, they were all working fine. When we rode a few days later, the hopping water was not working. Just a little something I noticed.

When we went on the GMR, the gangster car scene was working. That was on Tuesday, Nov. 13.

The hopping rabbit in Splash is hardly ever working...at leat everytime I go on it.

The other day I was on CoP and all the animatronics in the final scene starting "seizing". It was actually pretty creepy.

Sometimes, you can see up to two logs in front of yours, and it doesn't work for them, either. So, its not always that you're simply just missing it.

I don't care though, I always thought it was kind of a poorly done scene - you can clearly see the robotic arm holding Brer Rabbit, and then clearly see him turn around and "reset."

Similar to the Brer Rabbit AA, the AA jeep at the end of safari is also on a cycle right? Don't both AA's work for every other ride vehicle?

But also (I mentioned this in another thread) the jumping fish in Splash haven't worked since 1998. My favorite scene was when a fish would jump right through the broken fishing net that the bird is holding. ....maybe someday I'll get to see it again:(.

I just remembered... While we were in CoP, in the last scene with the family all together for christmas... my uncle, sister, and I all pointed out the grandmothers hand. Her arm was straight down, but her hand was twisted around, as if someone was working with it and forgot to twist back the right way. It was sooo creepy!!!! LOL

I forgot all about that. We were watching our trip video today with the family and I saw it in the video. It really was creepy...if anyone goes on CoP soon, look out for it!
