Attractions that used to be popular but now aren't?

Dinosaur used to have long lines, now whenever I go it's almost a walk on. can't figure out why, we enjoy it.
I like Dinosaur. I wish they would make more of that area with that theme. Course, I wish they would fix the damn ride and restore a few of the missing effects also......

I wasn't impressed with it. Same with Dinosaur - although I never rode it when it was fully functioning; it seems that a lot of the effects have been discarded or turned off or something...
Ahh that's a shame. I think the effects and everything are brilliant, so it's always a shame when they make no effort to fix things.

My dad first went to MK in 1973. He said he remembers being in the line up for the Country Bear Jamboree and they were waiting outside and it was so hot that a woman fainted while in line. It got me thinking............CBJ had a line that went all the way outside? Usually when I go everyone is just inside the main foyer. Granted I still love the show and anytime I go there the place is never empty but it is nearly guaranteed that you are getting into the next show regardless.

I'm not sure how to restore any of these shows to the cultural relevance they opened to. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like it if Disney does make them relevant. I do know I want to bore the heck out of my kids by making them ride them over and over.

I think this is a common problem these days - the world is changing so fast that what is contemporary and topical changes on what seems like a weekly basis. IMO its why so many of the rides made in the last few years <cough> American Idol <cough> are so dead even during the busier times of the year.

That said, I've been to Disney at New Years and rides that were dead the first week of January would have an hout plus wait leading up to New Years. Everything really depends on crowds and the time of year/day. I can walk onto Splash Mountain in the evenings if it cools down to 60 degrees but you'll wait two hours in the afternoon.

I agree that one ride I have noticed that has slimmed down in wait times is Mission Space. Used to be more popular and not sure if its died down because they tamed it with the green/orange experience, or because Soarin is the new big thing.

I think that actually, Mission Space has gained popularity. The separate orange and green give you the illusion that the line is smaller because it is splitting up into two lines now. Then throw in the single rider line and it narrows it down even further. It did have it's downturn shortly after it opened and people started "dropping like flies", but, that stigma has dropped down to a whisper and it has started back up again.

I remember even in the 80's and 90's there was a line... It makes me wonder what the younger generation (Disney's future) wants to see at a Disney park? Are AA's out now?

Yes, as hard as it may be to believe nowadays I vividly remember extremely long waits for CBJ!

Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
Thinking Mission was popular for like 3 seconds.........

Just a look at the ticket and it demonstrates how things have change in popularity, few have staying power.

AA'a just aren't that impressive now compared to 20-30-40 years ago. What you see in movies now is stunning and with 3D it's gotten even better. Video games, home TV everything has much better quality of effects. A big TV was 26 inches back in the mid 80's I believe, VHS tapes were fairly new and no one had surround sound. Now you can have a 50-70 inch TV with surround sound, 1080 P movies with much better effects then anything available to film makers back in the 80's. Just the tech involved in a cell phone is huge compared to 40 years ago. A cell phone probably has enough computer power to compete with a moon launch from the 60's...
I can understand your point, but I am from old school. I like the AA's and the (at least at one time) quality of AA's. I don't mind mixing them both on the same attraction if AA's and 3D film are done well. Bugs life is a great attraction. AA's, film, smell, feel all in one attraction. But I also don't go to Disney to watch a big screen tv either. I don't get the attraction to TSMM. Especially a hour plus wait if you don't have a FP. To me it is just a giant wee screen that I use at home. Well maybe not as big... I go to Disney and want to be immersed into a, you might say, state of mind that I cannot get at home. That's why I love to just ride the monarail..... When I ride that, I know I am at Disney.

Mickey Mouse Revue seemed to be taken away for Japan's Disney. Maybe its popularity declined here and that's why it was selected as a ready made attraction. Nonetheless, I've always missed it, but I do love Philharmagic. I miss 20,000 leagues too, I remember upon my first return with my son I asked the CM where it was and it took a few before I was told it was gonnnnnnnnnnnne.

The drivers at Jungle Cruise are awesome, I can understand if maybe sometimes they run out of steam, thats a job there. The only time I see it not crowded is late at night an hour or two before closing.

Hello!!! Just wondered what attractions you noticed have not been popular that used to be really popular, eg. Figment (i know it changed, but still).

What got me thinking of this was the Carousel Of Progress. I wondered if that had ever been popular? I know it was on of Walt's favourites so i wondered if there was a time when it was ever really busy.
My 12 yr old nephew calls it the Carousel of History, he thinks he's a real funny guy

I always go in the peak of summer and in my experience the rides that never have a line are:
MK: It's a Small World, TTA, Carousel of Progress, Jungle Cruise, Country Bears, Tiki Room
EP: Spaceship Earth, Living with the Land, Imagination
DHS: The Great Movie ride, Backlot Tour
AK: Dinosaur, Primeval Whirl
UNI: Despicable Me, Shrek
IOA: Cat in the Hat, Seuss Trolley Train, Stormforce Acceleration, Dragon Challenge
