Attractions that don't belong...

Ok, so its obvious, theres always that one attraction that you think "Why in the world is this here"

Example:
Festival of the Lion King in Camp Minnie Mickey.
Lets see, this is an African story based show, dealing with a group that travels through AFRICA to celebrate Simba....and its in an area thats based off the north east wilderness of AMERICA, get the picture?

Im guessing Splash Mountain would fall here in a way. Isnt this based in a story from Louisiana or something down in the south? If so, how did it get moved into the WILD WEST! I do understand that we dont have a New Orleans Square here but....

Obviously, the BIGGEST and I mean the ULTIMATE one would be, and you all will agree like it or not, the Indy Speedway....Thats all Ill say about that one.

1. The theme for Camp Minnie-Mickey is "back to nature". The Lion King is a "nature" theme since the whole movie takes place in the wild. That area is also a character-greeting area so what better place to have the Lion King characters perform!

2. Splash Mountain is in Frontierland NOT Wild West Land. All the attractions in Frontierland are southern-type attractions. When's the last time you saw a jamboree in the west? Has Tom Saywer ever been to the wast?

3. The Indy Speedway is in Tomorrowland. The tomorrowland attractions are one of 3 things ... the future, space, or transportation. Space Mountain, TTA, Astro Orbiter, and Indy Speedway are all based on transportation means.

Thank you.

1. Indy Speedway in Tomorrowland. (no futuristic-tomorrow theming whatsoever)

2. Festival of the Lion King in Camp Minnie Mickey. (needs to be in Africa)

3. Tarzan Rocks! in Dinoland USA (what does this have to do with Dinos? Same to the former Jungle Book show)

4. Splash Mountain in Frontierland (I have never liked this, a "Critter Country" of some sort should have been made and SM should have been placed there, then Pooh would have gone there and hopefully we would have never lost Mr. Toad:cry: )

5. Food Rocks in The Land (needs to be in WoL)

6. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh in Fantasyland (isnt FL suppose to be for those classic Disney films? I know DL's is. Why can't ours be too? TMAoWtP needed to be in a "Critter Country" of some sort)

7. Mickey's Toontown Fair (the whole entire thing is out of place. It's suppose to be a town, not a country fair!)

Thats the only one I dont agree with.
Mickey's Toontown FAIR.....hence forth, the theming does go along with the town.

Obviously, its the gangs town and the fair is one of those passing through fairs.

Wow what ride doesn’t belong –
Tarzan Rocks hands down, what are they thinking putting that in Dinoland USA – no dinosaurs – doesn’t take place in the US (of course the Tarzan show at Disneyland Paris is in Frontierland).
The one that gets my goat however is the Aladdin ride in Adventureland – Why? It kills the themeing and atmosphere and why do we need another Dumbo????
Also as we head into a world where gas burring cars will be a thing of the past – the Grand Prix needs to go.

Grand Prix Raceway is totally out of place. There's nothing futuristic about it whatsoever.

Buzz Lightyear also isn't really about the future.

Tarzan Rocks doesn't fit in with the dino theme.

Legend of the Lion King should be in Africa.

Those are the only four I could come up with in the entire WDW resort. Don't even get me started on DCA though.

Basically, I don't think a "theme" park should have a themed area if the attractions don't fit into that theme. Otherwise, what's the point?

The Indy Speedway is obviously out of place in Tomorrowland... but there's a reason its there (sort of).

When Disneyland was built in 1955, the concept of a "freeway" or a "super highway" was still a bit futuristic-- hence the reason "Autopia" was put in Tomorrowland.

By the late 50's, superhighways were getting more commonplace. But with the addition of the Monorail, PeopleMover, Skyway, and Submarines, Tomorrowland showcased what transportation might look like in the future.

Try as they might, WDW never shared that same "kinetic" energy of DL's Tomorrowland. And so the original "Grand Prix Raceway" never really fit in.

Interestingly, a few years back Disneyland combined their intertwined "Fantasyland Autopia" and "Tomorrowland Autopia" (yes, they had two!) into one large track--- and then made the trip more whimsical, with colorful cars and humorous sights. But oddly, the attraction now boards from the "Tomorrowland" side -- so it still does not fit the theme of the land. It would have themed better on the Fantasyland side (although space would be an issue there).

I've always thought WDW should do the same facelift to their Speedway, by making the cars more colorful and theming the track. Then it could easily become a Fantasyland or Toontown attraction--without even moving the boarding area!

Please don't take this wrong...Please!...but...

It's DISNEY WORLD!

"When you wish upon a star..." and all that stuff!

I will go to the World 6-7 times a month just to get away!
I go to lose myself in what Walt envisioned!

Just look at Indy Speedway this way... a humble transition from one land to another that got caught-up in a twisted time warp:D

Leave the speedway.... :)

Theme it different? Fine. Replace the cars with more *futuristic* one's? Fine. Remove it? NO WAY!

I've been riding that since the day it opened, and we still ride it every time we go. It's just now I can take my 3 and 4 year old boys on the ride so it looks less like I want to go on it ;)

And how isn't Pooh based on a classic Disney film? I'd say it belongs there more than IaSW. Personally they should rip out IaSW. It's an abomination compared to IaSW @ DL.

Think how nicely something like Mr. Toad's would fit there. That area is so big you could probably fit Mr. Toad's and Pinocchio.

The original IaSW @ DL is such a classic from the outside. Every time I see the one @ MK it shows how they went cheap. :(

Let's see:

* Lion King and Tarzan (agreed they're not inkeeping with the theming of their lands, but they're still great shows)
* Indy Speedway (Autopia was the future in the 1950s, but it should be updated for today's audience)
* Food Rocks (wouldn't this fit better in Wonders of Life?)
* It's A Small World (Not based on a Disney film like the rest of the attractions)

and the ultimate out-of-theming award of all times goes to:
* 20,000 Legues Under the Sea- Jules Verne Sci-Fi in Fantasyland? That's just silly.

I looked at that and thought "Hey!", than I thought and thought and thought...I guess you are right. Maybe it should have been/be in Adventureland?

Let's dump the magic carpets and move 20,000 Leagues in, than re-theme the old 20,000 area for Little Mermaid or something.

BRING BACK THE SUBS! ;)

I agree, I think Pooh is classic Disney. Not that it is my favorite attraction or anything, but I think it's theming fits Fantasyland.

Great topic and great discussions!

sicne when is fantasyland exclusive to attractions based on movies. the theme is fantasy, which is why it is rides-based-on-movies land.

The one attraction (great though it was) that I felt had no place in it’s location was Alien Encounter. All the attractions in MK were jolly and happy adventures. Then in comes something to scare the pixie dust out of the most resolute fairy!

Tarzan in Dinoland – the whole Dinoland area never really gelled for me, so it never seemed out of place to me, though logically it does not fit. Also I’ve never felt Festival of the Lion King is out of place. I guess the “Adirondack” theme passes straight over the head Englishman! It fits with the mood I get from the whole park.
