Attractions that are "shockingly" good

I'm not sure any of the attractions were "shockingly" good for me, as I had high expectations going into every one of them. But there are a few that surprised me with how they've found there way onto my "must-do" list:
  • Living with the Land
  • Carousel of Progress
  • DINOSAUR
  • Mickey's PhilharMagic
  • (not officially an attraction, but...) riding a ferry from TTC to MK
Note that I usually really enjoy the thrill rides, and I certainly get my fill of them while at WDW. So that's why I'm surprised that some of the milder, relaxing attractions listed above are on my my "must-do" list.

  • Enchanted Tiki Room - I felt I was obligated to see the "new" Tiki Room, with Gilbert Gottfried's voice not taking over every second of the show. I was pleasantly surprised. I personally liked it, even if it was a tad cheesy. Same couldn't be said for my family members though...
  • Tom Sawyer Island - Hadn't been since I was really little. It's really nice place to get away from the crowds. Plus, you could hide from just about anyone in those caves.
  • Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor Comedy Club - Like everyone else, I was expecting a boring and dull theater-type attraction. Boy was I wrong. What made it even better was my grandfather being along. And when he starts laughing, nobody can keep a straight face. Everyone was gasping for breath as we left from the hysterics.
  • Muppet*Vision 3D - Last year, my friend refused to go to Muppet Vision with me, so I wound up never seeing it. It had been at least 8 or 10 years since I had last seen it. This year, it was just me and my family, so I took my brother with me to DHS for the day. Muppet*Vision was the first thing we did after we knocked out the Rock 'N Roller Coaster and Star Tours. I didn't know what to think as I watched the preshow, but as soon as Rizzo came on screen doing his Mickey impersonation, I lost it. I thought it was absolutely hysterical. Absolutely loved it, and loved how we could just walk in.
  • Captain EO - As a Michael Jackson fan, I was completely obligated to go see Captain EO the first time we went to Disney after it came back. Idee and Odee had shaken up my belief in the film during the opening, but as soon as We Are Here to Change the World kicked in and MJ started dancing, I was in love with it. However, my friend refuses to ever speak of Captain EO again and hates me for forcibly dragging him in to see it. His loss.

We usually skip quite a few things at Disney. This year I decided to see those. My family was blown away by Finding Nemo the Musical and FOTLK.

Also on this list was the Nemo ride...

  • PhilharMagic - Had no idea what it was before going in. Was so surprised/happy.
  • Big Thunder - I was actually disappointed the first few times I did thunder. Then I sat in the back seat by myself...
  • LaughFloor
  • The film in France - By far my favourite movie-based attraction in WDW.
  • FOLTK
  • Safari

Flights of Wonder. It was both educational and VERY amusing.

Me too. I've seen it so many times now that I know exactly what to expect, but I have to admit that the first time I saw it I was super impressed with everything from the CMs to the birds to the set. I love it.

This is a hard question because the answer changes entirely if I think about my first trip (about 20 years ago) or more recent trips, which are totally different because I know the parks so well now. When I think back to my first trip I have to say that Splash Mountain really stands out. I had no idea that one spends so long inside the mountain, and the level of detail floored me - from the little vegetables growing on the top of the mountain, to the possums hanging from the ceiling, the cave scene, and then the riverboat scene AFTER you think the ride is over. It was one of those can't stop looking, eyes bugging out of my head kind of experiences. Incredible.

When I went on it with newcomers a few weeks ago, they thought it was just a simple flume ride. When you go around that first turn and tiny drop, they screamed (thinking it was the BIG drop) and then blinked in surprise. They had no idea what was inside the mountain, and it knocked them out :)

Star Tours: has been one of my all time favorites, and I feel like they should have kept the original storyline with REX as one of the possibilities? the only thing I didn't like was that they had very inaccurate timelines like going from the clone wars to the hoth battle...
Back lot tours: used to be so good! I loved how they'd have audience participation and (when they had it) seeing some of the backstage stuff like the costuming was really cool

I have always had a soft spot for Splash mountain, I wish the WDW Splash would integrate some of the additional scenes they have in Disneyland though, it adds so much to have the warning scenes and the random other scenes.

Spaceship Earth!! I love the narration by Judy Dench, and though it does need a refurb and maybe a better bit at the end (the cartoon video thing never really got me) I still ride it first and last ride whenever I go to Epcot!

Jungle Cruise: I absolutely LOVE this ride (even more so after working at WDW JC for a summer!) but there was a time where I didn't appreciate it so much... but then I actually rode it and was blown away! the ad libs of different skippers keeps me coming back for more, but unfortunately most of the JC really depends on how good the skipper is and not on any of the actual ride elements.

Carousel of Progress is up there for me. So is the Tea Cups, i know they are just a cup and saucer spinner but I have to ride them every time. Its tough to be a Bug is amazing for me too. And I know it may be cheesy but I love the mexican boat ride with donald and the caballeros.
