Attraction vs. Ride

I seem to remember reading or hearing from somewhere that when Walt Disney opened Disneyland he wanted to and was very careful to use the word "Attraction" not "Ride".

The term Attraction implies planing, theming and thought
The term Ride, something that is generic over fast.

All Disney parks all called Theme Parks.

Is this true?

The term, like others such as Cast Member, onstage, backstage, etc. was not there at opened. The language developed more over time. Attractions was also a better descriptor as Disneyland was not as focused on rides as are the Disney parks today. Walkthroughs, exhibits, etc. (museum type stuff!) were more common and more were planned.

A 'ride' is an attraction but an 'attraction' is not necessarily a ride.
