Attraction Capacity Expansion

I can't speak to exactly what is occurring right now at WDW, but in the past, some attractions had some ability to increase capacity without building anything new at all, at least on some days, and especially during specific times of day, such as morning and evening.

The parks have also long had the ability to add soft attractions like extra character greets and things like scavenger hunts. While maybe not the kind of 'attraction' option you are perhaps thinking, they do appeal to at least some park goers. in years past, a plus of holiday weeks was that they often bought out some rare characters, and they would be stationed in unusual places.

There is also plenty of potential to increase the number and appeal of the resort activities offered.

Attractions like Splash, Space, Big Thunder could operate with less stations, less vehicles... but the demand has exceeded the maximum capacity of those attractions. Those rides were built with attendance estimates from the 20th century. Attendance has increased dramatically since then, capacity has increased just a tad.

Some general thoughts, typed without thinking

MK - when the train reopens, it will eat some capacity. Parades will take some more.
Theater show in Tomorrowland where Stich was, perhaps? Replace the go karts with a high capacity ride "like" Soarin, etc. Most parks have these (think FOP, Simpsons, Soarin, Lego flight, etc). You can cram a TON of people thru, and it doesn't take up much space.
There needs to be some draw to get people to the back corner of Fantasyland. Sure, Dumbo is there... but what else could be there?

HS - Same as above, people won't like it, but add some virtual ride with super high capacity. You could cram it in a lot of places, maybe eat up some parking space if needed. The area with Launch Bay etc is so often a dead zone, I'd want to draw people there to spread out. I would really like to see a new coaster attraction at HS, but I don't see tha that happening.

AK - bring back the live shows. What do they have planned for the carnival area?? I'd love to see South America or even a true Jurassic type land, I dunno. Some folks love this park, and it is great, but most days for me it's a half day. We can stretch it into a day on longer trips, but we don't take many long trips.

Epcot - keep adding attractions in the countries. Works for me. Add some shade and more places to just hang out, honestly.

Yes, which is why I tried to heavily qualify my post. Today, on March 1st, I don't know if BTMRR was running both sides at park opening. In my experience though, there is some lag. Typically, there is some amount of time each morning when BTMRR only opens one side. The ability to increase capacity that way is perhaps limited, but it exists.

Currently though, WDW wants to sell paid passes. If there is a short wait for attractions people won't buy the pass. It is just that simple.

Rather than use expansion space to close an existing ride to add more capacity, why not update outdated lesser attractions that won't be headliners but will be new to draw in people.
  • Update Country Bear Jamboree
  • Update Carousel of Progress
  • Add scenes to Peoplemover
  • After Tron, replace the track with a higher capacity double seat across still duel track Space Mountain
  • Added characters to Small World like Disneyland
  • Add something in old Stitch location
  • Turn Mexico boat ride to Coco
  • Update Journey into Imagination
  • Replace Pixar Shorts
  • Replace Beauty & the Beast Live on Stage with a new show
  • Replace Voyage of the Little Mermaid with a new show
  • Update Muppets
  • Replace Indy with a marvel stunt show
  • Bring back Citizens of Hollywood
  • Replace Primevil Whirl void

Personally I don't want them spending money on adding capacity to existing attractions. I want them spending money on adding new attractions. And not new attractions that replaced something else. Give us actual new capacity. Tron will be the first real boost in capacity since what, splash? Mermaid and 7DMT don't count as they replaced snow white and 20k.
