Beware booking the passholder rate on line, it seems that booking rooms on line now require a 45 day cancellation. Not the 5 days you get by booking on the phone. I tried to cancel my reservations today 7days out and was told that i would have to pay a one night cancellation fee to cancel. Just a heads up.

Yeah, I noticed this when I made a reservation recently. It's disappointing, because I participated in several Disney surveys when they were considering adding the ability to make reservations online, and I was thrilled when it finally became available. But unfortunately, it remains a flawed system. The only use I've had for it is to run dates and see when discounts seem to be available and for what resorts before calling to make a reservation, but even then, it's entirely possible that there are discounts available by phone that don't show up online.

We had a trip booked for March '06, The day we were so supposed to leave, my son came down with a fever and was vomiting (turned out to be an ear infection. ) We cancelled our flight and called Disney and cancelled our reservation. Disney did not charge us anything - my credit card was completely refunded. I was an AP at the time. Maybe I just got lucky! Anyway, we went in April and had a great time. I can't remember if I made the reservation by phone or online.

What's scarier is that, for a very short time, when online reservations first became a reality. it was the ONLY way to book and get a Passholder rate, AND those restrictions were all in place. Plus, if memory serves, the vacation you booked had to be a certain number of weeks away, which would've severely curtailed passholders who liked to take spur of the moment trips. It all began last year, when attendance records were constantly being broken, and I think WDW was trying to do its best to limit any discounted rates without flat-out saying "No more passholder discounts." But that's the sort of thing that winds up biting them in the butt later, ticking off a core crowd that, discounts or not, spend more money at WDW than most others, taking a trip or more a year when many families would only go occasionally, or just once.
