Anything original in the works? It's about time some attention went to MGM. RnR imo isn't enough.

Both are original, one a show, the other a ride.....the attraction does not look to be nearly on the scale of IJA, but it would draw interest, and would be a welcome addition.

Thanks for the inside info.
I beg of Disney to choose the ride. MGM is packed with shows. One more show would just be overdoing a good thing!!
Why do I have a feeling we might be seing Monsters Inc soon enough?

P.S. Thanks for the info. You'll see a positive point added to your reputation! :animwink:

Maybe :lookaroun ..... I wish I could say more....the details I know are limited, and the method in which I uncovered the details is "questionable"....I would not want to ruin any relationships....I am not sure who has this info yet.

Well it's the only clone I'd like to see. Call it the exception.

Besides, I don't object to clones. They make sence buisness wise but don't let it be the solution to low attendance and/or park renewing. I hope I make more sence now.

*Side note: Did they really have to mention on the stunt show sign that it's directly lifted from WDSP? That park has a bad reputation as it is, no need to let it hurt MGM's attendance by showing where it's from.

I think clones are a good business move for a quick solution. It takes years to design, build, and test a ride. If the park needs help NOW, a clone can take a year or two off of that cycle.

Clones don't bother me, I have never been to DLP or TDL/TDS, I am going to DL for the first time next year.....so it is not like it is hurting ME to have the same or similar attractions at each park. If the cloning philosophy saves WDC some cash, and they reinvest that cash into the parks, I think that is good too.

I was thinking the same thing. I think, if anything, it is being used to cross-promote the park.

IMHO it could work both ways. It could make the WDS seem good or it could hurt MGM's attendance by saying it's lifted from a so-so park. I guess only time will tell.

Since most tourists are pretty dumb, I don't think they even know of a park in France other than "Euro Disney"

I think if you have a subscription to Amusement Business online you could see the whole list, but since I don't, here is the estimates I've gathered given the percent changes quoted in the Sun Sentinel article who apparently does have access to the AB numbers: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/busines...,0,1147665.story?coll=sfla-business-headlines and last year's (2003) attendance figures released from AB quoted online at this site: http://themeparks.about.com/cs/usparks/a/attendance2003.htm

(My calculated) 2004 Domestic park attendance:

1. Magic Kingdom...15.2 million...UP 8.7 %
2. Disneyland CA...13.4 million...UP 5.0%
3. Epcot..............9.4 milliom....UP 9.0%
4. Disney-MGM Studios..8.26 million..UP 5.0%
5. Disney's Animal Kingdom..7.82 million..UP 7.0%
6. Universal Studios Florida..6.7 million...DOWN 2.2%
7. Islands of Adventure...6.2 million....UP 4.0%

The only other number I could figure out was Seaworld with 5.6 million, UP 7.7%. Last year, DCA was number 8 on the list, and since I don't know the attendance for 2004 for the park, that is why my list stops at 7.

EDIT: I can confirm all of the Disney park attendance figures are exactly as those released by AB (I eventually found them on the AB site under worldwide attendance...see next post). USF and IOA I can not confirm 100% yet, but it looks like USF, despite opening ROTM, Shrek 4D and Jimmy Neutron within the last year or two, was the only park in Orlando to actually see a decrease in attendance.

USF down and IoA UP? That just doesn't seem to make sense.

Any word on DCA and USH yet? I'm interested in that race (DCA opened Tower this year while USH got RotM, so it'll be close)....

DCA Beats USH

From Amusement Business:

Disney's California Adventure, which in May debuted the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, drew about 5.6 million, an increase of 6% from last year, to keep the eighth position on the chart.

Universal Studios Hollywood, which also rolled out a version of Revenge of the Mummy ride last spring, benefited from a general increase in tourism spending and kept its hold on the No. 10 position with an increase of 8% to an even 5 million.

Going by the LATimes price of DCA's Tower costing $60million, was $10million for each % point rise worth it?

4. Disney-MGM Studios..8.26 million..UP 5.0%
5. Disney's Animal Kingdom..7.82 million..UP 7.0%
6. Universal Studios Florida..6.7 million...DOWN 2.2%
7. Islands of Adventure...6.2 million....UP 4.0%
TIE 8. Disney's California Adventure...5.6 million...UP 6.0%
