So to my surprise, they had a preview night and I was able to get a 7pm reservation for 6 that same night!!! My party and I were very excited, to say the least. We arrived 15 mins early but waited an additional 30mins past our reservation time. The restaurant was amazing. Very beautiful!!!! The waitstaff was very pleasant and helpful. The food was terrible:(((. Myself and my friend got the shrimp and scallops in puff pastry and nothing special about it all. 2 others got the steak which was very tasty and well prepared. The kids food was horrible. My son got the grilled chicken with pasta. The chicken was not fit to eat- very overcooked, dry, and hard to even cut with a knife. We will not be going back:(((

Awesome that you got to eat there! Sorry to hear the food wasn't good. How did you get the reservation, did a CM clue you in, or were you able to just walk up and make it?

I had the shrimp and scallops in puff pastry and it was terrible. I was very disappointed. The place was beautiful but at $65 for 2 dinners with no alcohol (we don't drink) I was hoping for better food. Or at least good food. And as usual they had exactly six choices of entrees. Not very much variety if you ask me.

To the OP, don't give up on BoG for the rest of time. The reason I say that is we went to the Yak & Yeti the first month it was open. We thought the food was mediocre at best then we ended up with some pretty brutal indigestion to boot. I heard a lot of similar reviews from that time frame. However, over time they got themselves worked out and I've read mostly good reviews since. New restaurants and their cast are always on the learning curve. They've got to have time to fine tune. Doesn't matter how experienced the individuals are, they've got to learn that environment. Sounds like the overcooked stuff was left under the heat lamps too long. That's a timing issue and lack of quality control. Give em time. They'll get there!

Not really much excuse in my mind soft opening or not. Certain things I can see being excusable in SO mode like possibly slow meals or waits but bad food should NEVER leave the kitchen of a restaurant of this importance. I guarantee someone back there knew it was marginal and let it go out anyway in the interest of keeping things moving...if they did not realize that what they were sending out was that bad then they should go back to slinging counter service. We all pay a lot of money and invest our family vacations in WDW and I am becoming increasingly less tolerant of acceptable mediocrity at the world.

We were just reviewing potential selections for our April trip and I looked at the dinner menu. For the price they're charging for an entree, you'd think they would be positioning this as something a little more upscale than CP or the Plaza. But then you see the only thing they offer for dessert is either a cupcake or a cream puff. That's kinda sad . . .

hmmmm - I'm thinking the very best episode of "Kitchen Nightmares" that has ever been done by Gordon Ramsay :). This COULD be good :).

...Gordon starts off yelling at the Beast for how horrible the chicken is...the Beast gets upset and leaves the restaurant and is seen outside on the bridge smoking a cigarette and saying to the camera how the chicken isn't dry and that it's cooked perfectly. Then Gordon comes outside and they both argue about it and the Beast breaks down crying about how much he wants Be Our Guest to succeed in the eyes of Disney bloggers and Disney Moms on the internet. He says he can't take all the tweets he's reading and what he reads on "the boards". Gordon reassures him that he can improve the restaurant and to get back in the kitchen and try again. Gordon shows him how to cook the chicken properly and the Beast cannot believe how much better the chicken tastes after Gordon helps him make the dish. The Beast is overcome with joy and happiness. He's so happy that he decides that taking pictures with the guests every night isn't such a bad idea after all. The End.

If only it was this easy...BUT you forgot to take into account for "management" and the fact that Beast is really just a franchise holder beholding to the mothership corporation. Poor Beast is no better off than Jennifer Aniston working at Chachkies in the movie Office Space...more flair Beast!!!
