At Disneyland, smoking is out and drinking is in - OCR/SCNG

>But Disneyland is not banning smoking to make a health statement. In talking with Disneyland managers, it seems clear to me that the resort simply ran out of space to provide an area to accommodate its visitors who smoke. Disneyland’s last smoking area just happened to be right at the entrance to Galaxy’s Edge. There is no way that smoking area could stay there with the new land opening, and there was no place else in the park to relocate it.

So the challenge for Disneyland now becomes to enforce its smoking ban. Every smoker I know has been fine with respecting Disney’s designated smoking areas. But that was when they had somewhere in the parks to smoke. When they have to go outside security after May 1, will Disney fans who smoke continue to be as respectful or will more of them try sneaking a cigarette or a vape inside the park instead?<<

OK, I don't smoke, but my first option would be a family restroom with a locking door. And it is a restroom I use at Theme Parks when using mobility aids. And I have smelled weed from prior users. So I presume tobacco and vaping smoke is soon to come. Or maybe next to a Back Stage exit, Tom Sawyer's Island, etc.

I presume vaping will be worse, especially at Parades, fireworks and Fantasmic!

Maybe Disney will build a location inside the security zone, maybe the Picnic Area????

They should consider the enclosed unused areas. Innoventions (on second floor) or Star Wars Path of the Jedi theater should be shutdown entirely for a smoking area. In DCA, use the empty hangar, that's currently used as the Captain Marvel Meet & Greet in the front. That smoke is from the jet.

Vaping is harmless. They should suggest only odorless unscented vaping allowed on paths.

A small study by Wolfgang Schober of the Bavarian Health and Food Safety Authority and colleagues published in the International Journal of Hygiene and Environmental Health in December found that vaping worsened indoor air quality, specifically by increasing the concentration of nicotine, particulate matter, PAHs and aluminum — compounds that have been linked to lung and cardiovascular disease and cancer among other health effects.

I suggested odorless unscented vaping. You quickly pulled up nicotine, which would be an add-on scented plug-in. I'm sure many use nicotine to kick the smoking habit. The habit has been formed. They should not use nicotine while in Disneyland since it end up in other people's noses secondhand.

Who said the smoking area will be outside of the security zone?

Phurbruh is correct, nowhere in the security zones.

>Effective May 1, 2019, the Disneyland theme parks, the Esplanade and the Downtown Disney District will become smoke free. <<

As I understand it, each Disney Hotel will have a smoking zone outside on its property, plus near the Costuming Building and behind the former ESPN Zone.

Maybe that is what they should have done, use a corner of TOM Sawyer's Island and turn it into a smoking corral. Maybe even add a themed roof shelter with exhaust fans connected to the cabins' chimney. save some money on the smoke effect ;)

I wonder, what is worse to find in the family restroom? Lingering Smoke, a vodka bottle, a used condom, or a soiled diaper on the floor totally left open with exposed fecal matter? The worst is used sharps without a protective cover, IMHO.

I'm more annoyed at their allowing booze in Disneyland. It just seems to be one of those sacred rules of the park for 60+ years and something I respect despite being a recovering alcoholic who got drunk outside the park and then proceeded to enter. There's literally no reason to abandon this rule except to profit off drunks. It's very sad.
at least it is going to occur outside the berm and in a brand new land very much separate from the rest of Disneyland and only in one location in that land. up until this, were you not ok with them serving drinks at club 33 which is inside the berm?

they would never have any smoking anywhere near the area they use for fantasmic. what if someone throws a cig butt in a random bush and during the pyro technics during fantasmic it re-lights it and burns down tom sawyer island? they want no smoking anywhere on that little island

A reminder, Disneyland Park has a Full Liquor License valid for every part of the park.

I have had multiple alcoholic drinks at press events (Tomorrowland, New Orleans Square and Main Street off the top of my head), private events held in restricted areas, such as the former Big Thunder Ranch Private area. They bring in bars if the event request it, and usually are cash bars.

And of Course, Holidayland...

Here's a nice shot of Holidayland for those who haven't seen it.
