Anyone ever been to Disney with someone who is not a Disney fan? Just got back from a trip where my brother tagged along with our family. His first trip, I was so excited to show him all the things I loved about Disney. Well he was not so excited. Not that he bashed anything, he just wasn't as thrilled. Maybe I've had too much Pixie Dust but it really irked me that he didn't have my same reaction. Anyone else feel that way?

Yeah I took my girlfriend in May.. and while she enjoyed it, she doesn't have the attention to detail, etc that I do. She enjoyed the rides and noted there weren't enough "thrill rides." I guess she just didnt' feel like spending $1,000.00+ a person was a good value for what there was to do for someone our age (20s).

I highly enjoy Disney and take in all of the smaller themed elements, rides, shows, etc. We had a good time but she didn't appreciate it as much as I'd hoped. I don't see her going back unless it was when alot has been added or we have kids. On the flip side, my best friend and I have gone several times and love it every time. I guess ya just gotta stick with those who have similar feelings towards it.

The Magic Bubble!

I call WDW the magic bubble, once your inside the magic begins morning till night.I have friends who are going in September this year and staying onsite. They are nine in total, from grandparents,to grand weans, but the grandpa hasn't got the pixie dust and would rather be on a cruise somewhere.I'll have to have a word in his ear and explain what WDW is all about, and remember him to pack the most important thing in his suit case. His imagination.:sohappy:

Later this year, I will be bringing along two newbies. I think they are just curious about WDW and want to tag along. I am having second thoughts about them. Hopefully, they will halfway enjoy it as much as I do!

Yep, pretty much everyone I go with aside from dd. My son doesn't care for it (though I can tell he's usually having a good time while he's there) - my husband...not impressed. I just took a trip with my mom and sister, and neither of them "get it." Doing Disney with someone who isn't a big fan will suck.the.life.out.of.you.

I have had "tag alongs" before too. they either hate it or love it. there is no happy medium. I always tell people who want to go, if you hate walking and crowds and lines, then this is NOT the place for you! If you love Disney and having fun even though you walk alot and may have to stand in long lines, then you'll love it! lol.....for the most part, everyone who has ever gone with me has enjoyed it, but for some of my friends who have never been, they just don't get it. I tell them, YOU HAVE TO GO AND EXPERIENCE IT! It really can't be explained it has to be experienced!

just got back last week with 2 newbies who LOVED it! they loved the shows, the villa we were in, the parades and especially the fireworks at MK and EPCOT...just wish Fantasmic had been up and running, but they are already talking about going back,so maybe it will be up next trip!

There are times I can tell my wife doesn't want to be there that day. That also applies to me to, sometimes just after a long week its hard.

There are friends of ours that mock us for having AP's, they just don't get what we like about it. I love roller coaster's just as much as the next guy, but Disney offers the whole package in my opinion.

My bother is the same way, its not that he dosent like disney its just he dosent get over excited... its didnt irk me persay but bothered be that he didnt seem to be enjoying the vacation as much as we did.
but what worked for us is that when he came we were there for 10 days so he eventually found something he enjoyed... renting the little water mice at the hotel and disney quest in downtown. So it made me feel better he was excitied about something rather then it being a wash...

but on another note I was there with my teammates for a soccer tournament and two of them didnt even buy park passes, spent the whole time either at the hotel or downtown.. completely blew my mind.. needless to say we didnt really see them that whole week except for the games and practices...

My sister, aka "The Richardsons", have been banned by my wife and children. Miserable time when we took them. I had to promise never to invite them again. So invited my other sister, who is obsessed with this board, and she fell in love with the place and is getting ready for her 4th trip in 2 years.

I should add that before my sister fell in love with Disney, she frequented Universal and bragged on the place. Something I remind her of daily!

That's a lot of flap from someone who still hasn't ridden the train! You havebeen what 15 or 16 times??? Ride the train Bro! BTW I did DHS (Then MGM) back in the 90's. I gues it was too new and the pixie dust had not penetrated deep enough yet.

Yes, I love it but my husband is only "okay" with it. He doesn't see the need to keep going. This past Spetember we spent 8 wonderous days in the bubble and he got bored!!! He kept wanting to go back to the room to nap. Sorry buddy... your on your nap ... besides what am I going to do, watch you snore?

In 39 days I leave again with my Disney maniac kids and my brother and his family... PARTY ON!!!!

Yea I have been there too. Last Christmas I got a room at the Boardwalk for my parents, husband and me..,all crazy Disney fans!! We were going to see Osbourne lights at Hollywood studios. My sister had not been in years and she has a real stuck up boyfriend that says Disney is for kids and anyone who is over the age of 12 shouldnt go. Note he had not been there since he was 4. He loves Universal and says theres nothing that can compare to it. Well my sister forced him to come. SHe loves Disney but never goes because of him. Well the rest of us had and awesome time on the rides and the lights. He said the Osbourne lights were nice but they would have been better in another park other then Disney. There are some people that just dont understand the Disney Magic and I say fine...one less person in line!!!!

My brother in law. When he was a teenager, his parents brought him to Disneyland. He hated it and never went back. Years later, he joined in on a few family trips to WDW and he refuses to set foot in any Disney park except Epcot since he saw Epcot as more "sophisticated and Intellectual". The last time that he and my sister joined me at Epcot, The Living Seas was in the process of becoming Nemofied and when he saw that "characters" were being brought in, he was furious. Then we head over to Imagination (a ride that he had never experienced) and even though he liked Eric Idle, he was disgusted with Figment. I explained that this was the third version of the ride and that the second one was much more serious (and hated) so Figment was brought back in. He said that he would have preferred the second one. He hasn't been back since.

Yeah, we took an Aunt and Uncle and they were bored. But they loved the food and the golf course we played.

Took another Aunt & Uncle and they loved it so much they didn't want to ride anything but just wanted to take in the sounds and sights. They said it was the most beautiful place they had ever been to.

The inner child...

I have a favorite saying, "The inner child rules this body." This is key to being a Disney fan. If you like being a child, imagining the world in a peaceful and magical manner then Disney is for you. If you have a hard time cutting up, letting loose and acting like a child, then Disney will never appeal to you. Its a fact. You can learn alot from a person by their reaction to Disney.

Agreed. I know everyone has a right to dislike Disney. However if I can paint a group of people with one brush I always seem to find the grouches as the ones who don't care for it. The miserable ones. Dare I say self-centered ones? Why do I say this? Because if you've been to Disney and hate it you haven't opened your mind and heart as far as I am concerned. And if you criticize the place and have never been, then you are too embarassed to allow yourself to check it out. Two types of people I could care less to be around. If you care what the next person thinks, then you're living your life wrong.

Heck, I'm 31 years old, my wife and I went to WDW twice before we had our son. I proudly put my pictures on Facebook, even the ones of my wife and I with Donald. Am I ashamed? Nope. I'm about the size of a linebacker, so maybe I don't look like your typical Disney guest. But as for going with a non-Disney fan. It's not really for me. I knew I would win my wife over once she got there but to me its too much of a gamble to take someone that can ruin the trip for you

Your first paragraph described my brother in law perfectly!

I've been with a few family members who don't really like Disney in general, but I can't say I've been with someone who really doesn't like it. I have many friends who see WDW as another commercialism ploy by Disney for "reasons, etc.", but it's so much more than that for me.
