asking for an upgrade

You can always ask at check in, "How much more would it be to upgrade to ...(water view, concierge, etc.)?

You may be offered a good price on the upgrade, so do your homework and make sure you know the differences in price to ascertain how much of a deal you are getting.

If, however, you have your heart set on a certain view or concierge, it is best to have it noted on your reservation.

Upgrades can only be offered based on their availability.

I think if you ask for an upgrade, you should be prepared to pay for it. On my recent trip, we stayed at AKL and asked for an upgrade with the intent of paying for it (we wanted savannah view instead of water view). They ended up upgrading for free. It was a wonderful surprise, but not something they have to do.

Exactly. It doesn't hurt to ask "how much would an upgrade be?" - if it's more than you want to spend, just say "no thanks, not in my budget". Who knows, you may get lucky.

However, if you walk in asking for a "free upgrade", the chances of the CM going out of their way for you are much more slim.

You're right,
I don't mean to imply that you should expect to get it for free, but to at least ask. At Disney many, many things are possible if you just ask. Many folks are just to shy to try. Just as many loose out by not asking for suggestions from CM's. Those conversations have provided many special (unplanned) moments over the years.

With the training and professionalism of many CM's, they take pleasure in being able to do that something extra when possible. :sohappy:

Yeah, I was in Canada last week and desperately searching for a Dunkin Donuts. Thank god I found one! I have never liked Tim Allans, oh I'm sorry Tim Horton's.

Sorry to get off topic.
