Hi there,

Myself and my wife are visiting from Dublin towards the end of August. Two quick questions.

We're looking for 4or5 good places to dine in post 7pm. We were thinking Brown Derby, Californian grill. Any comments/other suggestions...

Also re nighttime, we're staying at the Royal Plaza Hotel in Downtown Disney. Is the bus service really that bad? How much are taxis? Would they be quicker?

Thanks for your help.....

bus service is bad,
taxis are very expensive ,
at night you can go walking to disney downtown, it's nearby

we called once for a taxi to pick us up, and it took for more than one hour, ( I believe it's different if you call them a day before)

In my opinion, California Grill is a superior dining experience to the Brown Derby. California Grill is probably one of the best places to go in all of Walt Disney World. Plus, I would really suggest dining in the World Showcase in Epcot, especially before illuminations. The Morrocan restaurant is great.

There are dozens of great (although expensive) dining options within the world (way to many to name in this post). Some of my favorites include Flying Fish Cafe, Jiko, and Marrakesh.

Hope this helps!

The shuttles at that hotel run every half hour if I remember correctly. Taking a taxi is indeed expensive. As far as good places to eat, I would suggest the Yachtsman steakhouse at the Yacht Club resort and Spoodles at the Boardwalk.

Meega, nala kwishta!
Any of the World Showcase places are great to eat at.

But like others have said, the resort restaurants are some of the best places to eat.

Boma or Jiko at AKL
Artists Point at WL
Narcossess at GF

This year we are tring some new ones that have been highly recommended like:

Flying Fish at BW and the previously said Yachtsman Steakhouse.

Have fun! :slurp:

I have stayed at the hotel you will be in & although the bus service is just about every 30 minutes, it does stop at all the other hotels in the Downtown Disney loop. I believe there are 6.

Just straying from the original topic for a second...
Coming from a cold climate, you might not realize how hot & humid central Florida is in August, 90 - 95 degrees is not unusual. You MUST stay hydrated with LOTS of water during the day, heat stroke is the most common health emergency that WDW has. Also PLEASE use sun screen, 30 SPF or higher. You can burn badly in just a few minutes if you are fair like me. I promise, you will still get a little color, but without the pain.
Enjoy your trip & pardon my lecture!

I'll Second the San Angel Inn. We HAVE to eat there at least once on our trips to WDW. Another favorite is Marakesh at Morrocco. I've not had dinner at the California Grill but had a very nice lunch there. Dinner is supposed to be supperb but $$$. If you want a nice seafood buffet one evening and don't mind an easy stray from the Epcot World Showcase, hop a short boat ride at the International Gateway and head on up the Cape May at the Yacht and Beach Club for a wonderful Seafood Buffet. A tad pricey at $24US but you will leave stuffed. Jiko's and Bouma's at AKL are very good but might be difficult to get to if you are not staying at AKL.

P.S. Where in Ireland are you from, my Da's familly are all up in Co. Louth between Dublin and Dundalk.

Kevin and Mona.

about the weather

about the heat that someone mentioned.

It's not just the heat, it's the humidity. I say this as a resident of South Florida. The heat is bad but the humidity is what's worse.

Bring a backpack to the park with a change of clothes to change into some dry clothes halfway through the day. It will make you feel refreshed. Or you can change just before dinner.

My website has info about Central/South Florida weather patterns.

Here's another weather site that will give you an idea of Orlando's conditions. I check this daily before I leave home for WDW.

Speaking of the Guinness you mentioned earlier, some afternoon at Epcot when you feel like a pint or 2, make your way over to the Rose & Crown Pub located in the Great Britian pavilion. They can provide you with a take-out glass, then walk a few steps over to the wooden stage located right between GB & Canada to catch a set by the best musicians in WDW! They are an incredible Celtic Rock band called Off Kilter. They usually do 4 sets each afternoon, Sun. - Thurs. Their show times are posted by their stage & also on the show schedule you pick up at the front gate. I guarantee you a good time, great rock music with bagpipes, comedy & clap-along sing-along madness! Be sure to say "Hi" to bass player/vocalist Mark, a fellow Irishman! You can't miss him - tall, handsome, shaved head.

California Grill has the best steak I have ever eaten in my life, so definately try that. Jiko at AKL was excellent, as is Coral Reef at Epcot. Restaurant Marakkesh in Morroco is also a really great place. The Brown Derby is good and in the same price range as these, but it lacks the atmosphere of the others.
