Arriving at 5am?

Ok, so in January two of my friends and I are driving down to Orlando after one of them gets off work around 3 or 4pm. With the time change, that will put us in Orlando around 4 or 5am. Hopefully one of us can sleep in the back seat while one drives and the other entertains, so we won't be completely sleep deprived.

I'm debating between getting a hotel off property to sleep a few hours or just going straight to our resort. It seems silly to pay $100ish for a few hours in a room but I don't even know what we could do between the time we get to our resort (POFQ) and the time we can either go to a park or get in our room.

Has anyone ever had this situation? What did you do?

Not sure where you are coming from...but things can happen, esp in Jan...weather, road conditions, traffic, etc., We are from Illinois (near St.Louis Mo) and it ususally a 16 hour drive for us. We do the drive straight through...stopping for gas, restrooms and the Official Florida Welcome center for OJ and grapefruit juice. We do shift driving and sleeping with just a few stops and if we are lucky to arrive early we just nap in the van in the parking lot. it's never been a problem before.
We'll be coming from West Tennessee. It's unlikely we'll have any bad weather at that time, but you never know. We usually have ice/snow in late feb/march if we have any at all.

After thinking on this more, I might ask the girls if they want to stop in Valdosta to sleep for a few hours from like 2-6 and drive the rest of the way Thursday morning. We could just go straight to a park when we get there that way :) AHHH decisions!

If you check-in at 5:00 am wouldn't you have to check back out at 10:00 AM (or whenever their checkout time is)...Wouldn't you be considered a late check-in rather than an early check-in? Doesn't really seem worth the money to me.

Now if you could find one of those shady hotels that rent by the hour....

I'm not sure about that, but that's why I don't want to get a hotel when I get to Orlando, since it's such a weird time. I won't be able to check into our Disney resort until 7am (and the room probably won't be ready). If we stop in Valdosta, it would be like 1:30 or 2am.

This June we arrived at AKL around 5:30-6:00 am and they checked us in right away which was such a relief after a red-eye flight from Los Angeles!!
