It was recently reported today(6/22/17) that EPCOT Future World will be in for some improvements and will switch from exhibits to more attractions over the next few years WHILE KEEPING THE SORY OF EPCOT INTACT! I was just wondering if you were tasked with redeveloping EPCOT's Future World with more attractions(than exhibits), what would you do to the land and what would be included!?

Article as appeared in Orlando Sentinel:

In May, Disney filed for the permit, which expires in June 2022.

“At any given time, we have numerous projects in various stages of development across our resort,” Disney officials said in a statement, declining to give more details.

Disney executive Bob Chapek spoke of “a major transformation” during the D23 fan event in November.

"It will be more Disney. It will be even more relevant than it is today,” said Chapek, who oversees the theme parks. “And, at the same time, it will stay true to our original vision. Stay tuned, there's a lot more to come on Epcot.”

Elsewhere- Pandora opened last month at Animal Kingdom. The much anticipated Star Wars-themed land is expected to open in 2019 at Hollywood Studios. And road projects underway include flyovers for Osceola Parkway and World Drive.

First off - Question: Do I have to do anything to become an Armchair Imagineer? Or is this open to anyone? I am going to submit my idea anyway (sorry if I'm not supposed to do this):

Okay, even the biggest Disney enthusiast can't help but say that Epcot's Future World is dated. Aside from Mission: SPACE and Test Track, NOBODY goes to it, or, unfortunately, Epcot in general. Sure, most of the rides are great and terribly underrated, but nobody even gives them a chance.
This is because Epcot is too obviously educational in the park. The attractions don't have enough fun and enjoyment for kids in them, and Marvel might be the way to bring together the world of science and fun.

Here are some basic ideas I came up with in about the last three hours. These are not complete ideas, and many will probably be rethought.

Spaceship Earth Pavilion:
Dedicated to Thor
Attractions:
Spaceship Midgard
Dark Ride/ Roller Coaster
Loki encounters an ancient Relic of Oden which can send him through time. He goes out to destroy mankind, ranting about the stupidity and insignificance of man. Thor flies in to destroy Loki, and the train is shot out of Spaceship Midgard and around the structure, before returning to the station.

Imagination Pavilion
Dedicated to Doctor Strange
Attractions:
The Inner Spirit
RoboCoaster
Doctor Strange recruits you to become a sorcerer, and sends you through the Astral Dimension.
Image Warps
Interactive Show Building
Receive your own sling ring and manipulate various environments (similar to Universal's Harry Potter wands).

Universe of Energy Pavilion
Dedicated to Iron Man
Attractions:
Stark Expo: The Mystery of Energy
Trackless Dark Ride
The ride begins with Tony Stark giving a speech about energy. He then takes you back in time to the history of energy, at the time of the dinosaurs. After fighting several off, we arrive back at the presentation, and are taken to various forms of energy plants. Humorous disasters from other Avengers whilst showcasing the plants lead to comedy. Finally, Stark gives us a tour of his lab, and the various Iron Man suits.

So what do you think? These are very basic concepts, but I think they have the potential (with a little work, of course) to do Epcot right. I would love to hear your own ideas as well, or opinions about IPs at Epcot. My policy is to use them if they fit Epcot's big picture. YES, I do realize at the moment this is unable to be done at the moment due to Universal's contract, but I hope you at least enjoyed reading my ideas.

That was COOL! You are what I call an AMCHAIR IMAGINEER! The only reason I posed this was because I wouldn't know where to start. I would want to keep the transformation as close to the original story of EPCOT as possible, while using existing buildings with little to no refurbishment as possible...we know how Disney doesn't like to spend money! I have a few ideas bouncing off yours...

SPACESHIP EARTH(just a building to house a different attraction, utilize the current ride vehicles, but modified if needed.) The ride starts at the load area, you will be instructed that you are entering he home of some of the world's most famous Superheroes, this would be the place where they come to get away from all the crime fighting...as you ascend into the attraction, you begin the a journey that will take you into the world of Marvel Superheroes! you will be first introduced to the heroes upon ascending to the first floor. Each floor will be dedicated to several heroes and what they stand for and a scene or two. Every ascending area to the next level will introduce the next heroes. As the ride vehicle descend to unload, the heroes bid you farewell and wish you good thing on your journey to becoming heroes in your lives!
That was my initial thought for SSE...I must rest now my mind is blown! LOL!

This does sound familiar to what warfelg had designed a few weeks ago...maybe great minds think alike?:bookworm:
Ok, so I know this is diving back a bit and I know that some people have already answered with Hollywood Studios, but I disagree:

I think the answer is staring us right in the face from Iron Man 2 - turn the expo part of Epcot into "Stark Expo". Full on. I wouldn't do anything with defenders or XMen. All Avengers and GotG based. Each major hero/group gets their own pavilion.

Each pavilion gets multiple attractions tied to it. Rides, shows, showcases. I would include set and prop items in the pavilions too.

So to integrate it all - I propose the East Side becomes the "universe/multi-dimensional" side.
It certainly sounds like Universe of Energy is becoming a GotG center. Indoor launch rollercoaser themed around an intergalatic battle of the Kree vs the Guardians. A film show like the old Cranium Command that features trying to help Rocket Raccoon. Main gathering area designed to look like the collectors showroom.

Wonders of Life transformed into a Thor pavilion. Revive the old Body Wars area into a VR motion rig tour of Asgard by Lady Sif and the Warriors Three. Old Cranium Command area is a 3D show of the history of the realms from Himdall. In the main gathering area a recreation of the Asgardian throne for pictures and character encounters. At the middle a show called "Who is worthy?" with Mjolnir on a rock and people are chosen to try to lift it.

Mission Space turned into a Dr Strange pavilion. The ride is turned into a interdimensional battle with Dr Strange against the Mindless Ones and Dormammu. A show called "The Science of Magic". The main area being designed to look like the Sanctum Sanctorum with all his artifacts.

Test Track ok so I go a bit off the movie universe here into the AoS territory, and retheme this pavilion off of Robbie Reyes as Ghost Rider. Redo the entire night with a "Wild night with Robbie" theme where you start with just a cruise, and he turns into Ghost Rider part way through. A walkthrough exhibit of the history of the demon.

Odyssey Center would become the center of all things villainous of Marvel. Thanos, Ultron, Hydra. I think a cool ride would be a simulator where the riders are tasked with helping villains across the galaxy steal the infinity stones, but at each stop another hero is there to thwart you.

On the other side the West Side becomes the "Earth Based" hero side.
Imagination gets a big makeover to look like a smaller Stark tower. A science of Iron Man area. An all educational area about clean energy. And, I know this might draw some ire, a B&M lay down launch coaster VR experience called "Iron Man First Flight" where you ride along with Tony as he takes his first test flight in a new suit.

The Land becomes a Captain America and Friends pavilion. There's a ton to unwrap there, but Soarin' can be redone to thematically be a tour of the world with the Falcon. All the same but add in some shots with him leading the way and narration by the Falcon. A people mover ride that is the history of the Winter Soldier. And a show with Captain America called "Feats of Strength and Agility" where people are hooked up to stuff and use of props to make people look stronger and more agile than they really are.

The Seas is turned into all things Hulk. A motion simulator and screen ride (yes similar to what Universal uses) to journey with Banner into the battle for New York (from the first Avengers) where you ride along as he races to the city, get there, see the climatic arrival, and in a cool moment - Ant-Man shrinks you down to sit on Hulk's shoulder.

There's still space on that side to add another pavilion for Black Panther and do some really cool technology things for Wakanda and a cool ride based around that, but the key thing will be a show that celebrates the history of Wakanda.

Whew! Sorry that was so long winded.

I will stay with my original thoughts on a Marvel Epcot though that a) none of this can actually happen due to the Marvel rights with Universal and b) I am a huge Marvel fan but I wouldn't want it to take over Epcot. I don't think having educational rides is the issue, and it's not that Epcot isn't popular (it's the 6th most visited theme park in the world) - it's that there has been no investment to plus the pavilions for future generations.

Test Track in 2011 before the update, with the 90s beat music and bland backgrounds, had money invested into a refurb and was updated for the next 20 years with the neon Tron-like digital environment. And everyone will admit that's a cool ride, which combines automobile education with entertainment. There's no reason why Disney can't take you to the lowest point in the ocean at The Living Seas, take an Immersive journey into dreams at Imagination, or a new-age trip through the human body at an upgraded Wonders of Life. While some Epcot purists are against IPs forever in the park, while I don't want everything to be an IP, as long as it sticks to the overarching narrative of the park and creates new-age attractions, it's okay with me.

Spacemt...I agree with you on the original concept of Edutainment in Future World. I was going to post that it would be a great idea for Disney to take their strength brands that are appealing to the 5-15 year olds and work off that. I WAS going to say incorporate 'SUPERHEROES' and have them host the Pavilions...I think the kids in that age range would be more apt to learn something from their superhero! But I do miss the Epcot of the 80's and 90's when you could ride through your imagination with Figment, go to Alpha Base at the Seas and ride through your body at Wonders of Life! I am all for bringing back most if not all the ORIGINAL opening day attractions. Horizons as well...I miss that oddly shaped building! :) The biggest problem I see in Future World is there is no future anymore, All of those inventions are here and now! We need to look for a more sustainable theme for that area and go from there. EDUCATION would be best because we are always learning something new everyday! This is Disney, they can certainly come up with a great theme about Education while keeping the masses entertained and not knowing they are learning something! The do need to bring back Imagination in its original form with image works original as well, but it would be digital image works! The world is going TECHY it needs to be a TECHY Park with some great attractions. Ellen's Universe of Energy just needs a redo. Maybe get Ellen to voice it NOW with her current notoriety. I do not think putting in something that is related to Star Wars, like the Gaurdian coaster would fit! STAY TRUE TO THE PARKS ORIGIBAL PARK CONCEPT FOR THAT AREA AND BUILF OFF HE STRONG BRANDS. It was better in the day when each pavilion had its own sponsor, if they can do that again, I would do it! Things seemed to work better then!

I miss going to Innovations and seeing the technology that was a year or two away, like the Segway or Nokia's super small Cell Phones. I always though Googles X department and Apple should sponsor it to build high tech interactive facilities that showcase the technology of tomorrow. Or turn it into a working research lab.

I've never understood why attractions have live-action hosts like Ellen and Bill Nye. Even though the attraction needs an update, it looks even more out of date when you see the actors 20 years younger...whereas a voiceover has more of a timeless characteristic. So I'd shoot for no hosts for Universe of Energy and instead have a voiceover or design characters like Figment/Dreamfinder that are also timeless because they don't age.

I do have another original idea for a pavilion to be created at Epcot, and maybe you guys can help expand it. Here goes nothing:

The Way Things Work Pavilion:
  • Pavilion Theming
    • The pavilion is shaped like a glass hexagon, and a giant wrench and hammer cross each other on the top.
    • On the inside, the pavilion is very sci-fi feeling, and has a similar style to Star Wars ship interiors. Reds, greys, and whites line the interior, and Sherman's Locomotion Commotion sits in the middle, with Electron up 5 stairs to the left and an elevator leading to Working Man Eats to the right.
  • Electron (launched steel roller coaster)
    • The ride station is inspired by the look of a battery, and riders enter through a passive terminal themed entrance. They queue through various parts of the battery, starting down the carbon rod, and then to the manganese oxide. They then enter a room surrounded in bubbling water which is the moist paste of ammonium chloride. Throughout the queue, interactive elements such as diagrams and touchscreens educate the riders about the battery. The riders exit the battery out of the metal bottom of the battery, where they enter a room with electrical currents projected on the walls. Here they board the cars, which each are round blue balls which seat four in two rows. The trains consist of five cars, and feature over-the-head lap bars, similar to Taron.
    • The ride begins with the riders slowly making a left turn towards the back of the pavilion. A computer's voice says, "This is a short briefing on circuitry and the flow of electrical currents. We have shrunk you to the size of an electron. Good luck." An enormous switch lies in front of you. The voice says, "The switch connects the ends of a circuit together, and creates a complete circuit," and it is slid. Projections of energy flow from the switch into a dark tunnel. The train quickly accelerates down the corridor before performing an upward helix to the right then quickly banks to the left so that the train above an perpendicular to the tunnel they were previously in. The train swerves side to side than slows. The train advances through a corridor of straight track in which three giant lightbulbs sit parralel to the track, and turn on as the train passes. The train then swoops down a hill and into a large blue rectangle. The computer voice says, "The transistor allows larger amounts of energy to flow through the circuit," and the train makes an S-Bend to see a large electron animatronic shooting towards them, similar to the boulder in Indiana Jones Adventure. The train makes an s-bend and quickly launches again into a corkscrew and another upward helix, than a double-down. The train quickly brakes and enters a large cylindrical room, in which the voice says, "The inductor creates a magnetic field from a spiraling current of electrons." The train slowly spirals up around the cylinder, and blue particles projected on the cylinder fire up as you orbit. The train leaves the inductor and arrives at a red cylinder. The voice says, "The diode only allows for electrons to flow a certain way." The train lurches backward and down a helix, before returning to another diode and launching forward and around a heartline roll and another sharp turn, than quickly breaks in a tube. "The resistor reduces the flow of energy in a circuit," the voice says. We make another turn and enter a large ball. The voice says, "The capacitor restricts the flow of electrons. Your briefing is over." We turn into the station.
    • The entire ride utlilizes black light, and is very bright and vibrant, with a similar style to Tron. Power EDM plays in the background through out the ride. Electron is a thrilling way to teach teenagers, it's target audience, about the basics of circuitry.
  • Sherman's Locomotion Commotion (carousel)
    • A giant circular engine themed carousel with pistons instead of horses. Valves above the pistons move accordingly, and an animatronic Sherman, a cricket with a lab coat and goggles, dances around on top. Sherman sings about engines as the carousel rotates.
    • This ride is aimed towards young kids, and the engine is caricatured.
  • Working Man Eats (quick service dining)
    • Take an elevator onto the roof to eat at Working Man eats, an outdoor restaurant. The restaurant contains lush gardens to eat at, as well as booths, bar seats, and tables.
Some ideas I have but not completely thought out is a TTA-like attraction that explores the workings of various engine types. What do you think?

Time to dismantle EPCOT! (let's get... dangerous) Ladies and gentlement, welcome to Disney's Toontown! This brand new park stands on the grave of the former EPCOT, and while retaining none of its vision or themes, the giant white globe remains as the symbol for the park. This park is dedicated to Disney animated cartoons, especially from the 80's/90's/00's eras! With a heavy focus on the classic Disney afternoon, the park will be divided into multiple different "Channels" such as Toon town (from Bonkers), Duckburg, Cape Suzette, St. Canard, Spoonerville, New York City (Gargoyles AND Chip n Dale: Rescue Rangers, AND Disney's House of Mouse!), the Spaceport (Buzz Lightyear of Star Command), and Bluffington (Disney's Doug).

I have an idea for one of the attractions at EPCOT.

It being for the Imagination pavilion:

What if we had Figment teaching guests about historical people and them using their imaginations to create amazing things after getting that "one little spark" needed for that BIG idea that helped positively impact our world? Figment would take us on a history lesson about those people with strong imaginations with jokes sprinkled in subtly about those people in a playful yet light-hearted way and using the information to form a story about how people as far back as the stone age that had used their imaginations to create illustrations on walls to tell about important events in their own way and how that in some ways influenced their ancestors in their time to use their imaginations to make amazing inventions that ultimately changed the world for the better.

Then it would transition from the arts of creative men of Ancient Greece to the plays of William Shakespeare and then to specific creators of the arts in the later centuries with brief moments talking about their works (like bookwriting, music, painting, performing arts and eventually TV and film) that became influential in later works of the 20th century onward and then for the penultimate set-piece, it would feature Walt Disney and his team using their imaginations to create works that would not only ultimately change the entertainment industry forever but also be an inspiration to further creators (like the guests) over time. We can then finish if off with a colorful montage of animatronics and set design with all the creative influential people that were talked about in a cool montage to the song "One Little Spark".

Figment would then encourage the guests to come try out their new ImageWorks and be creative so that they too can be just like those guys and maybe even become an inspiration to future generations with their own creativity and imaginations.

I hope I can get any input for this potential idea so criticism is welcomed. Thanks for reading.
