Arkansas resort?

I live in Hot Springs Arkansas. I hadn't heard of any disney theme park rumors. However, I was talking with a couple of representatives in our legislature and they informed me that there were wispers of disney buying property near the branson area in missouri for their DVC resorts. They apparently are trying to make the DVC more attractive by offering different areas to vacation in.

About 10 years ago I had heard from a worker at Silver Dollar City that disney would be building a FRONTIER LAND theme park around there, but as all rumors go....i took it with a grain of salt. 10 years later, no theme park.

I would doubt DVC would build anything of their own at Branson. Having been to Branson, which I do enjoy (even at my young age :lookaroun ), I dont think DVC would build in a market that targets a small age range. Much of Bransons popularity is from 50 and older and tour groups. I could definately see them partnering with a Branson area resort and offering it as an option to exchange points for.

DVC had a hard time selling out the two resorts that are not on WDW property (Hilton Head and Vero Beach). The greatest chance for a non WDW DVC resort would be at Disneyland, but even that is a longshot.

Where did you hear this?

Do a search on Google and you'll get a couple of different articles mentioning this. Looks like most of these articles are all over a year old so maybe nothing ever came of the whole Disney tours thing?

http://www.usatoday.com/travel/destinations/2005-03-03-disney-tours_x.htm

http://www.sptimes.com/2005/02/20/State/Disney_to_try_tours_i.shtml

http://www.traditionalmountaineering.org/News_FeeDemo_Disneyfication.htm

Anyone on here ever go on one of these Disney tours and can give us any more info?

i highly doubt it I mean Arkansas must get a piddling amount of vacationers each year!

An excerpt from

http://www.arkansas.com/things-to-do/history-heritage/facts.asp

says:

The scenic beauty of The Natural State appeals to travelers from all over the country. As a result, tourism is a major factor in the state's economy. Travel and tourism expenditures in Arkansas amount to over $3.9 billion each year, contributing over $300 million in state and local taxes. Annual visitation exceeds 19.9 million travelers, providing direct employment for some 57,600 Arkansans, with an additional 27,600 working in support services.
Don't discount the idea of Disney going to Arkansas. The way Wal Mart is taking over the world. . . it could buy the Disney Co. and put a Magic Kingdom in every city with lower prices! :) <--Wal Mart spy. <--another one undercover!
No, wait, let me guess, they're going to buy the old defunct Dogpatch USA in Harrison Arkansas right? This one?

I live in Fort Smith, and while I wish this were true, I think Arkansas is a little too close to Branson, Mo and Silver Dollar City. Silver Dollar City even recently added a new mini-park called Celebration City which has Celebration Street, which looks a whole lot like at mini Main Street USA. It even has an Emporium, and night show that is an attempt at Fantasmic, but again in miniature. To give Disney props, its a mediocre copy of such as special place. I wish they would have worked on their own concepts more, because going there a year after going to WDW, it was not very impressive.

Glad you agree. It's very obvious where their ideas came from. I heard they bought land in Southern Missouri near the Ark line. Can't imagine them building there. :brick:
