with the massive amounts of closures through out all the parks , let me ask the question.. is it worth going each of the next two plus years? No Soarin, no Toy story, in fact DHS is going to be a shell of its self.. Avatar isn't open.. no river of lights as of yet.. Star Wars and Toy story land could be up to 3 years away... is it worth giving Disney your money the next 2 years.. You save and save, or at least we do.. I can't tell you how many times, I was told, No , that money is for our Disney trip, this past year.. and there was and still are no complaints.. it was a great trip.. but looking at what is open next year and the year after, how do you say, " I am getting my money's worth".. ( I HAVE ALWAYS GOTTEN MY MONEYS WORTH, do not get me wrong..).. but there is just a lot of new or hopefully new construction and not enough fillin's especially for next year.. Comments? discussion.. just good ideas.. please , and no personal ripping.. this is just asking and food for thought.. so to speak..

We have gone and spent an entire week there and never set foot in a park. We enjoy pool time, resort hopping, Disney Springs, visiting other Orlando area attractions, outlet shopping and so much more. So, for us, there is so much to see and do, if they closed two or three of the parks completely for rehab and updates, we would still enjoy it. There is much more to our trips than Soarin' Toy Story etc...

Soarin' around the World will be open this summer, Frozen in Norway is set for the next few months. DHS has been a shell of itself even without the construction for years now, but we still enjoy it somewhat. Animal Kingdom will have the night safaris and River of Lights open around April of this year. Avatar isn't supposed to be open til 2017 I think (and that's been known from the beginning). And Toy Story/Star Wars lands were predicted for 2020. So, IDK what the issue is?!

I think it's a personal choice. If I have the opp to go I'm going, because I know how to work around things and still have a great time in Disney and for goodness sakes...it's WALT DISNEY WORLD! There are so many things to do w/o even stepping in a park.

I completely hear where you are coming from. I know it can be very frustrating when you save for so long to go to the parks, and then are disappointed when you get there (whether it be that there is a lot of construction going on or otherwise). I tend to agree with the first response in that I could go and enjoy my trip even if only 1 of the 4 main parks were open and feel like I got my money's worth. However, I'm sure I also make more visits to WDW than most folks get to. I think if you don't get to go every year, and are trying to pick and choose when to go to maximize your money, then I can certainly understand waiting until some of the attractions and areas are completed and open. But if it is purely a "is this worth my money" analysis, then I think the answer is yes.

Soarin' isn't going to take 2 years and it is supposed to be taking 6 months for turning it into Soarin' Around the World and Frozen is supposed to be open this year also. There are no other Epcot plans known that would be taking a years time.

AK isn't going to take 2 years either since Avatar is a 2017 date Rivers of Lights is a Spring of 2016 date.

DHS is going to take more the 3 years since it rumors that DHS is going to have 3 or 4 phases instead of the 2 you mentioned. DHS basically is going to have non-stop construction till the 2021 to 2025 range.

The catch is DHS needs all those phases due to how bad Disney allowed DHS to be a first place like not closing the Backlot Tour 7 or 8 years before they actually did. The Backlot Tour was a shell of its former self since the size of the attraction was decreased and DHS stopped taping shows. DHS also became a theme mess after Eisner stopped using the the Working Studio part of DHS including for Animation movies.

I think it depends on your view. If you enjoy what the parks have had to offer in the past and don't mind some construction projects, now is a good time to go. If you want the latest and greatest and get bored seeing all of the attractions WDW has had to offer, then perhaps wait a few years so things will be fresh again. My family is going in December and I look forward to the classics plus new experiences: AK night show, Frozen, new MK hub, new Soarin, Disney Springs, etc. Personally, I think it's a great time to be a WDW fan. Over the next five-ten years, it seems like every time you go there will be something new to enjoy.

Yes - we are waiting at least 3 maybe 4 becaise I'm not going until all of that is built. Pay more to go to 3 heavily crowded parks because one is pretty much offline? After reading Photodave's crowd analysis... No thanks.

I'd rather go down, rent a house on the Gulf side near the beaches and get our Florida on that way during these next few years.

When did you last visit? That will make a big difference. For us we last went in 2010 and a visit in 2016 seems worthwhile. We will have all of New Fantasyland (although we did the Mermaid ride in Cali), plus Rivers of Light and several other new bits and pieces. Of course there will also be Diagon Alley and Kong at Universal as well, Mako at SeaWorld and Cheetah Chase and Cobras Curse at Busch.
I do keep thinking maybe I should have waited for 2017 as Avatar will be open (plus Fast & Furious and Race through New York at Universal). For me it feels like 2018 could be a quiet year, although hopefully Toy Story Land will open.

We go multiple times a year having the benefit of being local, passholder, etc.

None of this affects our enjoyments at any of the parks.

Personal bubbles are just that. "Am I getting my money's worth" is a completely subjective statement.

There's an army of humans that will never set foot @ WDW, and claim giving them one red cent is a waste of "their money".

From poor to rich, we all spend and value that spend differently.

I would go to the world on the weekends if I could, but that's just "me".

We're locals and do have not any plans to stop visiting WDW. There is still so much to do at WDW that a few closures or some construction wouldn't deter us. We look at it this way, if one of the attractions that we enjoy is closed, it gives us the opportunity to do something else that we normally wouldn't do. Maybe see a show, or go to Disney Springs and watch one of the many street performances, etc.

I see what the OP is saying though...for the most part I go to Disney for the parks and the atmosphere. Yes I do enjoy the pool from time to time and stuff but if I wanted to spend the whole time at the pool and go shopping and eat overpriced food, there are much nicer places than Orlando to do that around the country or the world, and cheaper.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not judging your post and am glad you enjoy it, but I too have thought if it's worth it for my family to go back to WDW in 2018. We'll probably go but may combine DHS with an afternoon at Uni or something else to fill the time.

I live up in Delaware now, so we get the chance to visit once a year (this year we are lucky with two trips). I think it just goes off of what you make of it. While Avatar, Star Wars Land and Toy Story land won't be there, Disney still has many other activities to keep you busy. I can't count the number of times I have seen the please excuse our dust signs at Disney due to construction. Disney is what you make it I believe. With so many other options for activities, I believe that it isn't a waste to visit Disney at all.

Change it up to Universal for the next year or two.. They've got a butt load of new attractions and soon-to-open attractions.

After maybe about 2 or 3 years, Disney will have lots of new things to do and new attractions to experience.. (Seems like everything is all going to open at once within a year or two at Disney, during between 2017-2018..)

lol they don't have to stop going to Disney parks...if they have time they can go to all WDW parks and then go to Uni as well, or combine AK and DHS to have an Universal day.

Next time I'm planning on staying from Saturday to Monday (9 nights)...2 days at MK, 1 at Epcot, 1 at DHS, 1 at AK, 2 at Uni and 1 at Water Parks.

It depends on what kind of visitor you are. These closures will not affect my plans in any way. We've been to WDW 7 times in the last 9 years and are going again this March. We never go to HS or AK, we always visit MK and EPCOT. And I've never been on Soarin. My current WDW trips are a lot like the trip my parents took me on in 1985. I don't feel deprived. Maybe we'll go to AK or HS in 2017 or 2018, maybe they'll be new lands to visit by then. Maybe the kids will be big enough to want to go to those parks.

But YOLO.

I'm not going to let the hope for a better future WDW (more rides, shorter lines, higher prices) stop me from enjoying something that I know right now will make my family very happy anyway. It's not about being on a new attraction for us or taking a picture with Elsa, it's about the beautiful memories we make when we're together enjoying ourselves.

If the only joy you get out of the place centers on this new stuff or the stuff getting rehabbed, by all means, stay home and save your money. Maybe the lines will be shorter for the rest of us.

The only thing you're going to get by waiting two years in Avatar. Star Wars and Toy Story will still be under construction. Disney Springs, Soarin' and Rivers of Light will all be completed this year. So you can just accept that DHS is limited or not. I think they've added enough and are adding enough over the next few months that it is still plenty worth your money. But if I was only going to take one trip my entire life, I might wait a bit for the new lands to be completed. But it sounds like you've been a few times. I say just go with your family and enjoy your time. You're really not missing much as far as attractions go park-wide.

What are you? A millionaire? Thats really a lot of money. There is no way my family would be able to afford going to both Universal and Disney in one trip.

The way we see it is there is always going to be construction and something new in the works. If you wait two or three years to go there will be new rumors of something else that you may want to wait for. The way we have always done it is if we want to go and we can afford the trip, then we go. New attractions are always a bonus but not the deciding factor for a trip.
