Are The Jungle Cruise Speils Totally Scripted?

I was wondering....when you ride on the jungle cruise, do the Castmembers have to follow a strict script or can they improvise a little.
If they think of something that they think is funny, can they just follow their instincts and say it or do they have to get "approval" from higher ups?
Do they have a list of jokes they can use or can they make up their own?
I know it's important for them to be politically correct so I was wonderng if they have to ask their bosses when they come up with new jokes for the attractions.
Curious minds want to know:)

Curious minds shall find out. For the most part, the spiel is scripted. Now, the wording and delivery of jokes/facts in the spiel changes depending on the skipper, but the fact remains that it's scripted. Here's where the iffy part comes in. Skippers are supposed to stick to the scripted spiel, but it is widely accepted by just about everyone that it doesn't happen too often (as most know). The grey area comes about because certain jokes that have been in past SOG(standard operating guide) are not in the current one. (I.E. "When you're in the jungle as long as I've been you begin to smell...danger!") Management can give approval for jokes, if needed but Skippers are supposed to stick to the scripted spiel in the SOG. I'll leave it at that.

I have been going to the magic kingdom since it opened and it seems like the jokes and script have not changed very much over the years. I could actually get up and take the skippers place and be able to recite the usual script for the entire ride. I still love that ride.

My favorite Jungle Cruise joke was sadly one I only heard once, and I loved it a great deal- and I listen for it each time I ride.

Right before you enter the cave, you'll see crumbling pillars going across the water.

"Now many of you may not know this, but these pillars are from the Magic Kingdom's very first monorail system. They date back to some 200 years old!"

I don't know why this strikes me as so funny- maybe because it references another "ride"- or maybe how ludicrous its dating is.

Maybe it's no longer used because people honestly believed him.

Heres a website thats very neat.

It list most if not all the lines the skippers give when operating the ride. Some I've never heard untill I saw this sight. I'm still hoping to be a skipper for my CP this summer, but we'll see! Anything they give me will be cool, i'll be working at WDW; can it get any better? LoL. Have a great day guys. Radiohost:cool:

The script is completely interpreted by each CM as they seem to see fit -- if you get a funny guide, you get a much funnier ride -- if you get a stick in the water (and there are some) you might as well be reading the script yourself. Funniest adlib on my last trip - " see that giant butterfly over there -- Disney helped breed that himself - it's called a Giganticus Fakus Animaticus and they are all over the parks now"

It's a terminable joke--as in a skipper can get fired if caught using it. BTW--nice to see another person from Naperville on the boards (that's originally where I'm from).

Any joke that makes fun of the Disney company is a big no-no. Anything offensive as well (like the mother-in-law joke).
gotcha...I didn't really think that was making fun of Disney...but I guess I can see how it would be.

So I take it making a Nazi salute and shouting "HAIL MICKEY" is out of the question then, right?

Best,
Will- BABS

When I first read that I read WillBabs. I think from now on I'm just gonna call you Willbabs. Not Will, nor Babs. But not Wilbur. Wasn't Wilbur one of the characters on Mr. Ed? Right, like I would know--black and white TV didn't exist when I was born--it was all color then. I'm 'bab'leing now.

It varies depending on the ride/attraction...

Jungle Cruise has already been answered, but at Innoventions, we have to keep a 85% to 90% accuracy on the scripts we do; it's an agreement we have with the venue sponsors.

The Great Movie Ride actually has to be PERFECT...word-for-word, not even a 'the' or 'an' missing. At least...to be certified you have to be...however, Innoventions does audits on script delivery, so I imagine they do it at GMR too.

Why thank you! (We still all need to hang out in the parks when I'm not working--although I do enjoy seein you, Andrew, and MJ at Parade--always brightens my day)

All right, this was most deff. not in the script. well i dont think it would be...

Anyway, My best friend Westan and I were at te world about 3 years ago, and it was his first time. He is SOOOOO talkative it's not even funny. So when we get on JC were first on and there were not many people and he says were going to wait for more "heads", i mean "Bodies"(wait that's the Haunted Mansion) well, we will wait for more "People". So westen starts to talk to him and all... the skipper's name was Andrew btw...

"Hi, welcome to the Jungle Cruise"
"Really? Were going on a cruise?"
"Yes, what's your name?"
"Westen!, What's Yours"
"Westen? Really? I used to have a dog named westen"
"Really, i bet he was really stupid"
"no, he was pretty smart actually, and my name is andrew"
"Really, i used to have a dog named Andrew too!, He was really stupid"
"Really that's too bad"
and by this time we had a full boat so we took way...

Then when we were approaching the "natives attacking scene" Andrew tells Westen to stand up. So westen stands up, andrew introduces him, and they all say hi, and westen greets them back. So when we get to the scene of the natives Andrew tells westen to "take the weel" and puts his hat on westen's head and says look natives, and he ducks down, when everyone else follows. When he got back up he says "thanks for driving they could have had my head!" later when we reach the "head's sails men" Andrew says' ok the "heads sails men" is selling westen heads for 1 dollar. westen goes "REALLY WHERE?!?!"

Idk, this was the best expirence of a life time i just thought i would share. and are CM supposed to interact w/ the gusts that much and put their clothing on Gusts?? just a thought
