Just a little get away from school. Maybe Oct 11-18. Either going in October or early January. I am trying to decide which would be better time to visit. We were there this past January and it was a little chilly even though the crowds were great.

Keep in mind the Halloween party is an additional admission cost. The same could be said for F&W as well since a lot of the items requiring purchasing (aka, you can go to F&W with your park tickets, but the consumables at the kiosks aren't all free).

Are the Halloween party and Food and Wine Festival worth making a short trip in October?

I love both so I'd say absolutely. And if you can spare an evening for a visit to HHH at Universal, even better.

I'm not a big parade fan generally, but I think the MNSSHP parade is great. I also think Hallowishes is the best of the Wishes versions. I recommend going in costume and getting into the spirit.

Food and Wine is pretty cool and different from the normal Epcot experience. Lot's of great food.

My boyfriend and I adore MNSSHP and feel it's worth the money. Being able to dress up and go to MK, get LOTSSS of candy, meet characters that are rarely out at any other time (the princes, villains, all seven dwarfs) makes for an amazing night that we look forward to all year round.

We did Food & Wine last year for the first time because it was my 21st birthday and I was dying to drink around the world. It was so much fun and the food was delicious.

I say they're completely worth the trip :)

If you're on the dining plan, a stop at F&W on a weekday as soon as World Showcase opens is DEFINITELY worth it, as most, if not all, the food options at the booths count as snack credits.

I agree. MNSSHP is pretty cool. If you go to this, go for the parade, fireworks, decorations, etc. Don't go just because you think the lines for the rides will be shorter. You're there for the party. Enjoy it.

F&W? I've geen to it a few times and I don't get it. It has a huge following and I'm just one man.

My thoughts:

Wine tasting: I found it kind of interesting. I thought that the presentation was good. I found that there were a number of people in the audience who were there for the snobbish aspect. It felt like, "Look at me! I can detect a hint of seaweed in this California Merlot - Napa Valley, if I'm detecting the trace amount of minerals correctly." Granted, it's not my thing. It just seemed like the folks doing that sort of thing were more into it for the attention it got them than the appreciation of what they were into. I've seen the same thing with people and beer. I don't need to dissect beer or wine or a soda to know "I like this" or "I don't like that." When I've seen people who's job it is to quality control the drink that their company is producing, they don't get nearly as into it as these audience members. They'll tell you what they're looking for and whether it meets the spec or not and that's about it.

Chef demonstrations: These are cool and tasty. The thing is, it's like watching the food channel with nearly any show except Good Eats. Good Eats described what was happening and you learned something. I've made things from Good Eats. With these chef demonstrations I don't feel like I'm learning anything or will ever make that dish at home. It's like watching the cooking shows on the Food network where you're really just watching someone cook with some lighthearted talk. You'll never make this when you get home.

Food, wine, and beer kiosks: These generally struck me as expensive fast-food like samples. This is the problem with these food festivals to me. You're buying odd samples and never really enjoying a meal. Further, a lot of it really isn't that good. The wine and beer is mostly what you'll find at your local grocery store. So none of this adds up to some exotic new flavor, food or drink, that you're experiencing. It's just odd little fast-food like samples.

So, for me, I don't get it and I avoid Epcot when I'm there and it's happening. I don't fault anyone who enjoys it, or the wine tastings, or any of the rest of it. You have a good time. It's just not my thing.

I love food and wine fest and go a few times a year. I went for an extended stay mid October and was great. The Halloween party is fun, Id say worth checking out at least once but I probably wouldn't go just for that. January is a great month to come visit if u time it out right

Agreed. We did F&W for the first time last year, and Epcot was so crowded, I could barely breathe. We only saw IllumiNations once over the 2 weeks we were there, and that was only because we were able to snag an ADR at Rose & Crown.

Halloween party, yes Drunky-fest meh, hit or miss. I'd agree with Brads' evaluation but would tweak just a few items. While the samples are not inexpensive, they also provide food items not normally available.

If you want to really indulge and overdose on tapas and booze , then you might be interested in the F&W Party for the Senses.. Its not cheap... last years prices were in addtion to the park admission: General admission is $145, a main floor reserved table is $189, and a reserved table in the premium Wine View Lounge is $299. Reserved seats include a specialty cocktail and admission at 7:15.

We did general admission and we were tipped off to be there early so we'd be there at the front for the "rope drop" like rush to the limited open seating. Its something you do once. The tapas were excellent prepared by the likes of Wolfgang Puck (all you can eat perfectly grilled scallops, I think my wife had about 14 but who's counting)), Kevin Dundon (interesting Duck) to drop a few names.

Its tapas and booze all you can handle, but then again is drunky-fest so the there are quite a few who over-indulge.
