Are dessert parties worth it?

Never did a dessert party - wanted to get some insight from someone who has?

Is one better than another? Do you get enough bang for your buck? One-and-done type of thing?

We've gone twice over the years and have enjoyed it....it's nice to get out of the crowds for the viewing.

It's something you wouldn't want to do every year, but is certainly a experience worth the cost.

Hint: Don't worry about getting there early and stand in another line...tables are reserved with your name on them so just get there on time to 5 minutes late. Also your table placement is secured by the ressie...make them early for best seating.

For me the beauty of the wishes dessert party is it is covered. In the case of rain, you still get a great view. We have done it once and are doing again in march. Also we enjoyed sitting at the table while the kids went up to the railing to watch. The view was good enough from anywhere. The desserts are good. It is relaxing. Sure, not worth 100 for the food alone, but you are paying for the location.

The Epcot one is uncovered, if I'm correct. I'm hesitant to put down $100 for an outdoor event such as this. Florida weather is temperamental.

Wishes Dessert Part is around $25-30 per person. If you breakdown the price as a cost-benefit analysis, I look at it as $10 for preferred viewing and $15-20 for unlimited desserts and treats. If you think about the individual cost of everything at Disney, it's actually not too bad of a deal.

We've done Wishes and Illuminations. IMO Wishes is too crowded together, but there are more dessert choices and you can sit down. Illuminations has a fantastic view, and sparkling wine which makes it worth the cost if you drink enough of it! However, there are very limited dessert choices, and there is no seating.

We booked Wishes the last week of Jan next year. It was $160 ish for 6 of us to book it. Now in Jan we most likely will not "need" the seating as the parks are rather slow anyways. But we go once a year so we do things we can't do any other time of the year. Where else are we going to shove sweets in out pie holes and watch fireworks by a big ole fake castle while awesome music plays? Worth it, every penny to us.

We just are using that as our dinner that night, we would have spent $90 or so on a QS meal with drinks for 6 anyways so the party is only costing us an extra $70. The kids are OK with desert for dinner, for figure..... :)

Good info, I was wondering why our ADRs were at 6:20 pm when wishes start at 8:00pm.

We did an IllumiNations dessert party following our wedding reception this summer and it was so worth it! Having done it once, though, I don't see the need to do a dessert party at Epcot again. We would consider doing Wishes or Fantasmic, though!

I have experienced both the Wishes and Illuminations parties. For my money, the Wishes party is far superior in my view. I like the covered area, location and private reserved tables. Plus it's cheaper than the Illuminations one. I've done this party 3 or 4 times now.

The Illuminations party was disappointing with no seating - just a few high-top cocktail tables (and not enough at mine). The number of different desserts was less than what they have at Wishes. While it didn't rain during mine, I can't imagine what it would be like with rain. For those reasons I considered it over priced and a do-it-once, don't again event.

I've done Illuminations party and would definitely do it again. The wine was the sell for me as opposed to the desserts. If you like sparkling wine and think you will drink 5+ glasses in the two or so hours of the party then the money works out to be a good value. Throw in the dessert and the view of Illumination and it's a good deal in my opinion.

As an extra note, the party is moved inside in the event of unfavorable weather conditions. For us the lack of seating was not a big deal. You can read my review here.

We did the Wishes Dessert Party last year and as much as we enjoyed it, it's not something we would do every year. Every few years maybe? But once is good for a few trips for us

Wishes was OK (we've done 6X over the past 7 years), but with the current construction on the hub underway its just plain ugly. You'll gaze in wonderment at the piles of sand, a stray bobcat or two and the backside of the green scrims.

What I hope they do is continue with more events of the caliber of "Villains' Sinister Soiree" as that's the best value added desert event I've attended. You get a roped off area in front of the castle (Hub Center to hub edge on the castle side so there are benches to sit on) that's policed by cast members for only ~150 people for the first and second stage shows, first parade, fireworks and then the desserts in Cindy's with all the Villians. Extremely late for my DW and myself who are morning people, but well worth it. A much better vantage point that Tomorrowland Terrace, but not as good as the Train Station balcony or Ferry dock at the TTC.

We enjoyed Wishes when we did it! Loved the fact there was reserved seating so it didn't matter when we got there! I would highly recommend anyone go at least once!!!!

We've done the MK dessert party and enjoyed it very much. I want to try the sparkling dessert party at EPCOT but at this time they still have not opened January. We are going on the 11th.

What I'm curious about the Wishes dessert party is... do you still get to see the night parade and the castle projection show or is it just for the fireworks? I love seeing those three "night things" and I'm used to staking out a place early and watching all three. I would hate to miss one or two of them for a dessert party but the party sounds great!

The parade is hard to see. You can see it, but pretty far away. The castle project show looks great as do the fireworks. And you can sit and relax and eat dessert. Many people complain that you need to stand by the railing. But the fireworks are high in the sky so no need.

Yes the mk is really good. The sooner you book the better table you get :)
