Application question

Hi,

I had a question about the college program application. There's a box you can check that says, "I am available to work Saturday and Sundays, either days or nights, holidays and overtime." Any advice on whether I should check it or not? Does it affect your chances of getting in? Is working on weekends not bad at all? Thanks for any info, and for always answering my questions!

Yes. Check it. At my presentations, the recruiter was telling them to mark it because you have to work them. So I would say check them.

I would say check them all. I checked everything on my CareerStart program application, despite the fact that I'm not really supposed to work Sundays for religious reasons. Theres no box asking for explanations, so I figure I'll bring it up once I'm in... if they accomodate me, great, if they don't, well, hopefully the whole Cast Member thing will make up for my loss of eternal salvation ;)

Yes--I would be prepared to work any and every shift. When I worked there, my days off weren't even consecutive--they were Tuesdays and Thursdays. Seems insane now, but didn't really bother all that much back then.

Thanks for the info! So now my online application's in, and I've been anxiously preparing for my interview tomorrow night. Any last tips? By the way, once you're done, will they tell you how to submit your application by paper? Why do you need to do it again if you submitted it online?

Once you've done it online, it's all in the Disney computer system. Just be sure to have that printed out version because the recruiter is definitely going to need it. As for tips, the logical one that everyone will tell you is to smile. It's always a plus. Also go in professional dress; it's always better to look your best. Lastly, just be yourself. The questions are easy, so if you're truthful and really want to be part of the program, you should have no problem getting an offer. Good luck, and be sure to let us know the outcome!

Thanks a lot for this information. I have yet another question! I remember seeing in the E-presentation something about a $62 application fee. Do I need to enclose that with my application?

No that fee is if you get accepted into the program and decided to do it. You send it to them to hold your place in an apartment. It also goes toward the cleaning of your apt before you get there, as well as activities for the apartments such as grocery bingo. So don't worry about that until you hopefully get accepted!

Hi, it's me again. I was wondering about the CP. After my phone interview I was told I should hear my status within 3 weeks. Do they usually take the whole three weeks, or can you tell whether or not you're in if they don't respond within a certain time period? I couldn't really tell if my interviewer had a positive feeling about me or not. Should I call them if I don't hear from them in 1.5 or 2 weeks, or should I just wait out the 3 weeks? Sorry; I just sent my application last week and am getting anxious. It's not crucial, but I'm just wondering what to expect and what steps to take. Once again, thanks for any info!

nope- it took me almost the whole three weeks- wait it out and don't call until after those three weeks are over!!! It might look bad if they say three weeks and you call after one and a half... lol i don't think that the time it takes to get to you has anything to do with whether you actually got in or not

DISNEYWORLD, DISNEYWORLD, DISNEYWORLD!!! I'M GOING TO DISNEYWORLD THIS SUMMER!!! Thanks for all the advice and information! I just happened to check my mail today, and it turns out I'm assigned quick-service food. And yet I have another question. I've been thinking this over, and now I'm wondering if it would be better to do custodial instead. I don't know if I can change, but I guess it doesn't hurt to ask. Any pros or cons, advice? Thanks again!

Is anyone going for the summer program this year?

Word is, once you've been assigned you can't seriously talk with them about changing roles until you're done with your course at the earliest.

That's the tradeoff to being only assigned roles you've marked yourself willing for.

Thanks for the info. I made myself available for either quick food or custodial. If, hypothetically, I were able to switch, would anyone have a preference for either role? I heard custodial was more interesting; I imagine you get to move around a lot more and interact with people more. The down side is that I imagine Florida summers are brutal. Do the cast members have to stay outside for extended periods of time? On the other hand, it might be more interesting than quick food. Either way, I'm thrilled to be accepted, but any feedback would be great. Thanks!

I haven't done the program but I've read a lot about it, but I've read Custodial is out in the sun a lot, and during summer you WILL want to slather yourself in sunscreen multiple times through the day.

I'm not wild about either, but if I had to pick one of those too I'd do quick food. Custodial just seems to scream "cleaning toilets" to me. I know there's a lot more to the job than that, but let me nicely phrase it this way: If you're working quick food you want to wash your hands and keep them clean, where as custodial is pretty much about getting your hands dirty.

Thanks a lot for the feedback. I think I'd be happy doing either role, but I was thinking about it last night and I think they saved spots for everyone in an assigned role, and since I would enjoy either I think I'll just stick to quick service food.

And yet another question! I'm having some academic trouble in college. This is sort of a long story. I took some classes this semester that I now realize were mistakes. I withdrew from one of them, which means I'm now underloading, and I'm having just as tough a time with another class. My other two classes are fine; I'm just struggling to pass this course. I will work as hard as I can to do well on the final, but the future looks bleak.

The rule is if I'm underloading and don't pass all of my classes, I am dismissed for a semester for self-reflection/evaluation/etc., with the chance to return the following spring semester. The thing is, during the summer and that one semester I am technically not enrolled as a full-time student in college.

If I am doing the summer CP, should I let the organization know about this? I don't know if it's better not to mention it, at least since I don't know the outcome yet, but I don't want to be dishonest either. Plus, I'm afraid I might get kicked out of the program if I don't tell them about this and they find out later. I don't know if they meant I need to be enrolled at the time I apply or if I need to be enrolled while I'm on the program. On the other hand, I've heard of people doing the CP after graduation, when they're technically not enrolled anymore. Sorry for the long post!! Thank you if you've read this far!

You only have to be enrolled the semester that you apply. This is pretty much so graduating seniors can apply. But I suppose it would work in your case as well. So I wouldn't even bother telling them about it. Also it could give you an opportunity to extend if you are enjoying your CP. And then go back to school in the spring. But of course, I hope you do well in your classes, and better than you anticipate. Good luck, and have fun this summer!

Thank you! I'll do my best. Haha. I just have to try to focus on studying instead of Disney World! I think I'm going to start living in the library.

I'm worried about the forms though. I e-mailed my dean to see if she would be my faculty contact. Do we need to submit transcripts or forms or anything? I've read a number of different stories online, and I'm not sure how they do it nowadays. Can anyone who's on a recent program give me any info?

Sorry; another question! How do you choose your roommates? I was told that you are assigned once you are down there, but how are you assigned? I think I'll be assigned to wellness since I'm under 21. What's that like? I don't have anything against drinking, but I prefer not to live with people who do, or do so excessively. Do people in wellness still drink even though it's not allowed, or does everyone pretty much want to be there? I read a story somewhere that all of the people in one wellness apartment were sent home because one person was found to have alcoholic beverages when some people did a random search. Does anyone know about this? What should I do if one of the people I live with has alcohol? I don't want to tell on them, but I don't want to get sent home either. What if someone is busted and I didn't know anything about it? Sorry for all the questions, and thanks again for any information!
