Hi all
I am not sure if this is the right forum to post this question in so kindly move it or let me where I should post, thank you.

I am considering an AP but I am totally confused on the pro's and con's on having an AP...
can anyone send me in simple terms the pro's and con's
right now we are booked at the POFQ 6 people two connecting rooms with 5 day park hoppers, i am currently paying 4700.00
would it be economical for me to get an AP? the other thing is would i really be able to go back within 365 days? FINANCIALLY, i guess that's the next big question right? lol

The pros are that you get admission for a full year so multiple trips within a 365 day window are covered. I don't know about cons per se. If you are looking for a room discount that might make the cost of the pass worth it, you would have to do the math on that, in terms of a non discounted room vs a discounted one. Also you aren't saying what date range you are looking for or if you are willing to change resorts to get a discount as POFQ is frequently NOT included in discounted offers. You can also purchase the Tables in Wonderland card for a 20% discount on sit down dining at all participating Disney locations. There are a few other benefits but the real big one that would decide me, is am I going to Disney for at least a few days more than once in a year. Marie

The break even point on an AP is approximately 11 days worth of admission. If you plan on being in a park at WDW for 12 or more days in a single calendar year, then an AP is usually the way to go.

The only real con the AP has is it locks your out of free dining promotions as they require a minimum ticket purchase. All things being equal, that is not much of a con as the free dining promotions are not always the best deal. You can also still technically get the free dining promotion, but you have to make the minimum ticket purchase and either convert those to an AP if it is your first stay, or hold on to them and apply their value to an AP renewal.

The pros to an AP are many, but not guaranteed. You can often get room discounts, merchandise discounts and some limited dining discounts, but those can be changed or discontinued at a moments notice so don't bank on them. An AP will also give you free parking at the parks if you are staying off property.

An AP also gives you the ability to get a Tables in Wonderland Card for $100. This card will give you a 20% discount at nearly every table service restaurant on property as well as a few of the counter service ones.

There are different things to consider.

The break-even for days using AP depends on how long individual trips are going to be. An AP Costs $654, two three-day Hopper tickets are about the same.
Shopping/food discounts and free parking only require one AP in your party.
Room-only discount for two rooms would require buying an AP for two of your party.
Multiple trips within a year would require APs for everybody.

The biggest "Con" is the temptation to go more once you have the AP! :p

I have a question on AP - I'm going on a package deal - room, park hopper & dining. Can my ticket be upgraded to an AP because I'm going back in March 2017. I know if you buy a ticket you can upgrade it but wasn't sure with the package deal.

With an annual pass using it continually around the year, when can you make your fast passes? I know main gates for cast members can do theirs a week in advance. I would not be staying on property when I go.

Look at ticket days. That all the AP is guaranteed to get you is park admission. Yes, there may be lodging discounts, but those are only slightly better than those offered to the general public/Visa holders and lately have been the last ones released. Dining and merchandise discounts are also similarly replicated for Visa/DVC holders. The best thing about an AP would be the ability to buy TiW (which DVC and FL Res can do as well, but they pay more). Basically after $500 in dining spend at TS locations (not all TS and some CS accept it) you start to save money. So a party of 4 who does 1+ TS meal a day usually starts to save the 20% after 5 or so meals. So if you are going to do 2 trips within the 366 days the pass is valid, then between the tickets and TiW you can usually do fairly well. But if trips won't overlap, then doesn't make much sense.

30 days out, up to 7 days worth of FP+ can be booked on the system at once. If you try to book day 8 it won't let you unless you cancel one of the other days.

Master Yoda one more question please. Since I'm upgrading to an AP I'm also thinking about the Tables in Wonderland. Our October trip includes the food plan so can I use the TiW card to get a discount on any a alcohol we have with our meal? Doesn't sound like much but a couple beers or glasses of wine start to add up.

As long as the restaurant you are at participates in TiWL, yes. TiWL also has a few blackout dates that include Mother’s Day, Easter Sunday, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

All the details can be found here. http://tablesinwonderland.com/
