Anyone trouble getting resort discount?

I am fairly new here so if this has been discussed a lot already I apologize. Since we had kids we have tried to visit wdw every two or three years. We have a trip coming up in February which we booked through an agent a couple months ago. Since then we received a mailing notifying us of discounts for bookings at select resorts which included where we are staying (going to bay lake this year). We gave this to our travel agent and she was going to check it out for us. After waiting a couple weeks at least she finally emailed us and said that we couldn't get the discount because it was through a wholesaler. This doesn't seem right to me. Has anyone else had this happen and have any ideas? It would be a significant savings so I'd like to be able to take advantage of it. Thanks!

A couple of things...

First, you should have not have had to inform your agent about a discount unless it was a PIN code offer sent directly to you. A proper agent booking Disney should keep track of all of Disney's promotions and should automatically re-book you if and when one comes out that you qualify for.

Second, it should not take weeks for an agent to get back to you. When I was working as a travel agent for @Kingdom Konsultant 's the only acceptable excuses for taking more than 24 hours to get back to a client were death or kidnapped by the Chinese Mafia. Disney promotions are often quite limited and it is not uncommon for them to fill up mere hours after a promotion is launched. An agent waiting even a day or two can miss out for their clients.

As to the offer being done by a wholesaler, I am sure that is possible, but I am a little skeptical. All I can really say is that in three years as an agent booking nothing but Disney, I never once had a client inform me of one they had received.

I am just spit-balling here, but if it was an official Disney offer and not a wholesaler, I think you agent might have dropped the ball and called to late to get you in or, even worse, did not bother to check at all.

Any chance you might be able to post the offer you got?

The offer is save up to 30 percent of on select wdw resort hotels on most nights January 2-July 7. Book through January 26. Mention unique offer code. I guess I'm not sure if the agent meant that the offer is through a wholesaler or if the original reservation was through a wholesaler. This is the first time using this agency.

This sounds like a PIN code offer. If that is the case, it is not from a wholesaler.

A PIN code offer is a promotion mailed directly to you that usually has a numeric PIN code on it. All your agent would have had to do it call Disney, give them your name and the PIN code and see if it could be applied to your current trip.

They look something like this.

disney-pin-code_1.jpg

If it would not work with your current trip your agent could have found the details of the PIN code (resorts available, dates, etc). Sometimes you can move your trip a day or two in either direction and/or change resorts to make a promotion work. At minimum they could have told you that it would not work with your dates, resort, etc.

There isn't a PIN it just says unique offer code CCHW YP7G so don't know if that's same as what you are referring to. Thanks for info and input though. When I chatted online with Disney long prior to booking anything I thought sure they said that we would be eligible for any promotions that might present themselves at a later date.

That is a PIN code offer.

Disney was correct. Unless you are traveling during holiday season, or staying in a very popular room in a very popular resort you should be able to get some kind of discount. The only client I had in three years that paid full price was staying in a club level, tower room, theme park view at the Contemporary during the week between Christmas and New Years.

Can you share which agency you booked trough?

This is one of the best things about booking with a travel agent. My travel agent rebooked our stay at Disneyland's Paradise Pier the minute Disneyland put out a discount. My agent had rebooked our stay to take advantage of the deal and sent me an email about it before I even knew the deal existed.

We are rural and about hour from agencies. Can I circumvent agency somehow to get this you think or do we have what we have.
Your options are pretty limited unless something has recently changed.

When you book through an agency, that agency owns the reservation meaning they have to make any changes. Your options are generally limited to see if they will release the reservation to you or another agency or just outright cancel the reservation.

In the future, do not let the fact that you a in rural area limit who you use. Everything can now be done with an agency online.

In regards to Disney, go with an agency the specializes in Disney. They know all of the in and outs and tend to run circles around other agencies where Disney is just one of the items they sell. Many of them do not charge you a dime for their services either (they are paid a commission by Disney)

I have used Kingdom Konsultants for years. I was a customer with them for a few years before going to work for them and I continue to use them now that I have hung up my travel agent hat.

I agree this does not sound right and is not a very good travel agent at all!! It should never ever take weeks for an answer to something!! My agent always got back with me almost immediately or within the hour. And the not being able to book it because it's from a wholesaler seems bogus and was a pin code from Disney as has now been noted.
So sorry you are dealing with a travel agent like this!!:facepalm::rolleyes:

Definitely don't let your residence location get in the way of using a great Disney TA. I don't even live in the same country as mine and she's booked us WDW (although we usually do these ourselves), Adventures by Disney (both of our trips) and she booked us our upcoming Disneyland trip. She's in Indiana and I'm in Ontario Canada.

Thank you all for your input and advice. Found out agent booked through delta vacations which I didn't know. Emailed both yesterday asking if I can't take advantage of any discounts etc with them, then what incentive do I have to book through them? I haven't received a reply yet. Guess I should have joined here and asked for advice before I ever booked!

So sorry again and a reputable and knowledgable agent would have booked through Disney directly for you Not through Delta. :(

Theres plenty of information out there, unfortunately not too many big flashing signs pointing to wdwmagic.com, Kingdom Konsultants or other reputable places. Now that you've found us, please keep asking questions and share the info with others...
