Anyone seen Mamma Mia on stage?

I know this has nothing to do with Disney, but I have the chance to buy tickets for the Bristol performance next year.

I would like to know if the show is suitable for children. I know it is about a young woman getting married who wants to find the identity of her father, who could be one of three men.

My 2 girls, 9 and 6, absolutely love Abba music, so they would definately enjoy the show, but would the story be OK for them or are they too young? I'm not so worried about the 6yr old, most of it would just go over her head, but the 9 yr old (she would be 10 then) will understand, and probably ask a lot of questions!

I have seen it on Broadway twice, and throughly loved it.

However, for young children, there are a few words that might cause your daughter to ask you questions that you might not want brought up until later on.
BUT, that is a VERY small portion of the show.

The music is so great, that she will likely forget the words later one, anyway.

Once on Broadway and Once for the travelling cast in Schenectady, NY with my daughter. She loved it!:sohappy:

My daughter is 11 and loved. She still has me play the soundtrack on the way to school. She never even asked me what dot-dot-dot meant.

Enjoy the show.

You will have no problem with the show with you kids BUT your 6 year old might lose interest quite quickly -- the story deals less with the "seeking the father" aspects than it does more fully with the divorce aspects...

BUT....the story is so secondary that (except for a long portion in act II played in the brides bedroom and encompassing 4 songs) it just zips along and your kids will have enough to watch that they will be enthralled.

Caveat -- the show is sprinkled liberally with curse words of the PG-13 variety if it were to be made into a movie. Probably nothing most children these days haven't heard.

How bad were the curse words? They have heard 'shoot' with an i and similar other words, and they recognise them as bad words that they should not use, but I wouldn't want them to hear the 'f' or 'c' words!

That part can get to be a bit much even for older people!

The curses aren't all that bad.
I personally can't remember the 'f' word being used, but I could just be losing it! :hammer:

Yes!!! I did several times... on broadway 3 times and I think it was about 7 times in Europe... Yep! This old guy is an absolute ABBA Fan...

And your kids will love it, don't know about the 6 year old... because of the story line but she'll love the songs...

I've seen it twice... once on Broadway and the tour in DC.

It's plenty safe for kids... and was my favorite musical for a while.

(But then I saw The Wedding Singer...)

We saw it a few weeks ago in New York. It was the first time either of us had been to a musical. The show was fantastic, I was singing along and tapping my feet all the way through the show.
