When I was there last week we did the ole monorail hop and were getting drinks and notcied there a ton of lights out on the contemporary, you can't tell from far away, but up close you sure can. Same goes for the Floridian, the little white lights are out all over the place. Again not noticed at a far distance. Just another example of WDW cutting costs on upkeep and its really sad. We need someone to step up to the because sorry Meg Crofton is not getting the job done. The parks conditions are bad! Have any of you noticed all the construction tarps on main street the past year and a half? I really hope they don't decide to keep these cost cutting procedures after the economy is back booming. wouldn't that be a shame, but not a suprise with how cheap Disney has been in the past. Here's to hoping!

What white lights on the Contemporary? I didn't think it was outlined like the GF.

Also, the tarps were refurbishing the Main Street buildings. That's a bad thing?

Or is this just generic internet ranting?

There are indeed many lights out, however they should(and probably will) be replaced with all the resort rennovations coming along.

Now lets talk about the main street of Hollywood Studios if you wanna talk about a lot of neon lights out.

The cluster of lights on the contemporary. there are rows and there are square lights on the contemporary when you get close to them (from the pool area) you notice every single square cluster of light had atleast one bulb out EVERYONE! I looked at it a while

Yes, I did notice this--especially sad for the Grand Floridian, where I have noticed burned out trim lights for years--not very fitting of the "flagship resort."

The construction in the Magic Kingdom is actually a good thing, however.

They also now turn off those lights on the outside of the Contemporary at like 10pm or something now. Kind of sad for something so "iconic" at the resort.

Also, didn't more of the GF used to be outlined? It looks so dark, bare, and deserted now when it gets dark. There are almost no lights on the roof from the Lagoon side.

I hope they have this resolved by my March trip. It seems just too simple to just unscrew a light bulb and put in a new one.

I did notice the exterior lighting on the Contemporary last October when we were there ... and the Grand Floridian as well. It really rubbed me the wrong way, you already spend a premium to stay on property and resort op's can't maintain lightbulbs?

The Wilderness Lodge actually had several problems we noticed last time when we were there ... there was actually a fixture missing from the dock, one of the hanging lanterns by the boat launch, that had exposed wires. I mentioned this and the fact that the background music was not playing on the exterior, and the lanterns we not 'flickering' at night to a CM on duty, the background music was fixed on day 7 of our 9 day trip, the rest I never found out about as it was still in disrepair when we left. What gives?

The tarps on Main Street, however, are a good thing, it has needed some love for a while now.

Is disney having problems with their unions because the contracts have stalled? I don't want to get flamed, but it is a tactic that unions use to get an upperhand.

That is very true. I am not sure what happened with the contracts.

Same here, I know there were problems but I haven't seen anything in the news if anything was resolved and or what employee were effected.

I really don't think that tdo has slipped back to its eisner-era ways of not maintaining the parks properly. I also don't think that they would not have the Grand Floridan in tip top shape during the holidays.

I love the Contemporary Resort... gosh if they give me a ladder and some bulbs I'll help swap em out for free... I live in Florida so I really would be happy too...

When you say rennovations upcoming at the CR.... I sincerely hope they do not screw around with the theme of the Grand Canyon Concourse..... especially the murals.... I heard they are going to replace the windows on the east side of the Grand Canyon Concourse and as that is one of my favorite places to simply "enjoy the resort" in those comfortable couches there by the windows SO I HOPE they do NOT MESS with the layout there NOT ONE BIT!

Speaking of the CR...they need resort merchandise to return..and err Not pins or any of that lol....

Do you let anyone share an opinion on these boards without being critical of them?

To the OP, I noticed the same thing last week. The GF at night looks like it's not even open for business. Another cut back we noticed was one of the main entrance welcome signs wasn't lit after dark.

The problem with all the tarps up is that it's for work that could be done for overnight if they were willing to spend the money. 15-20 years ago, they got work done on Main Street that quickly. They just don't want to spend the money anymore.

Those windows need to get updated, just because the cr was built in the 70's doesn't mean it has to be locked into style for everything.

Can opinion be expressed here without devolving into hyperbole and overstatement?

It's one thing to express disappointment or highlights areas of improvement. It's another to call for the job of the VP of the parks over lightbulbs.

Of course, I'm sure the OP registered his complaint with the hotel before he left so that the company actually knows their slipping maintenance standards affected his enjoyment, because it would be irrational to expect the VP of a company to step down for an issue one didn't even bring up to the first level of guest service.

Right?

Can't we all get along?

Lighting isn't just a problem for the Contemporary. When I was at Epcot on December 4, the Japan Pavilion outside was about completely dark with worse lighting over there than rest of the time before illuminations. It looked like TDO forgot to pay the electric bill for the outside lights for the Japan Pavilion.

20 years ago the buildings we only 20 years old. Quite a bit happens to a structure in Florida between years 20 and 40. Unless you happen to know what they are actually doing under those tarps complaining that it is taking too long is a bit misguided. I seriously doubt Disney would go to all the trouble of erecting scaffolding and printing out tarps for nothing more than a fresh coat of paint.
