I have recently found the wonder of using the "crackle" effect with paint and thought I would throw this question out here for anyone that might have tried it before.

I did a couple of pieces in the weathered crackle that I absolutely loved. I love mixing old looking pieces with new for a unique look.. but anywho I would love to do a piece with black underneath gold, I think it would be so pretty but I dont know if it would work with a spray for the top coat since it says to use a brush or roller?? I don't want to ruin the piece trying it so I thought I would check and see if anyone here had tried it or thought it might work.

I've never tried doing a crackle finish with a spray, but my thinking is that a spray paint would be too thin and wouldn't crackle properly. Personally I would stick with a craft acrylic. You should be able to find a metalic gold paint at your local craft store. I use to purchase metalic gold paint to use with my art students at my local walmart. Hope that helps!

Thanks! The only place that I have looked is at the local Hardware/paint store. I am new to the painting & restoring furniture thing so I am kind of winging it. I had a few older pieces that I thought could be given new life. It is pretty fun though.
