Anyone ever heard of...

I was just wondering if anyone has ever heard of James Swearingen? He's a composer/arranger for bands. He's one of America's best ones too. Well, I just thought I share with you something Our county has an Honors Band and Choir. Well, this year, the band got Swearingen as our guest conductor. And he wrote a piece of music for us! We premiered it tonight. It was pretty awesome!

Yeah, I've heard of him. I played trombone back in high school band and we learned a few of pieces written for schol band. Man, that brings me back a few years. Lemmessee... we did "Windemere", "Legacy", and "Aventura". I believe we also performed his "A Chirstmas Classic" for our holiday concert one year. Nice stuff, though it was all obviously written for student bands in mind.

Since then I've shifted my focus entirely to anglican choir... I think it's been 3 years now since I've even touched a horn.

That's cool that you got to meet him babe. It's always exciting to perform under the direction of the person who has written the music.

I've heard of him. I know I've played some of his music before, but I can't remember any of the pieces. That's very cool that he conducted your band. The college band I'm in premiered a piece by Frank Tichelli in February. That was exciting. I think its cool when composers write songs specially for a group. When I was in high school, we played a song specially written for us. It was written by my middle school band director and was an awesome piece! Very, very, difficult to play, but it sounded great once we sort of figured it out.

That is very cool!!! I premiered a choral piece by John Reuter back in '91 at Lincoln Center in NYC!

I have a piece of work composed by him that he signed for me!! I had a solo in it... I forget what I was playing in... some honors band... I know it wasn't state, because I was first chair, and I made 3rd in state. Hmmm, I'll have to go dig it up... it was an awesome piece!! I'll get back to you on what it was.
