Anyone ever fly out of Atlantic City Airport

We are heading to WDW in June and I am considering flying Spirit Airline out of Atlantic City Airport (in NJ). I have always flown out of Newark and never on Spirit but I can save a bit of money this way.

So anyone who has flown on Spirit and/or flown out of Atlantic City please let me know what your experience was like.

Thanks

I've never flown out of there but if you can save money, I would seriously think about it. I fly out of Newark since I am in Norhtern NJ. Have you done any research on the airline or the airport?

i have flown out of AC and it was ok. We didnt really have trouble with our flight and it was on time. It is a VERY small airport though, and my family likes to get at the airport early and go shopping and look around( we usually fly out of Phila.),so we didnt get to do much b/c there was hardly anything there. But it was easy to find our gate:cool: . All in all, if ur really trying to save money, its a pretty good place to go, just make sure you bring something to do if you go early.

We hope to leave on the earliest flight available (7 AM I believe). It's just my wife and myself and since we have flown quite a bit with both our parents living in other states, the thrill of being at the airport is no longer there for us :) . The airports are about the same distance for us. With the early flight and the "be there 2 hours ahead of time" suggestions (is that still in effect or are they back to 1 hour?) we will need to be leaving the house really early. We always bring books/magazines with us for the trip down but if it is like last year I will probably nap a bit.

We have always flown from Newark and while it is a good airport it is just so crowded that I have grown to dislike it. The money saved is a big incentive too.

Both the airport and the airlines seem to be OK (at least from what I have found on the web so far). I figured if I asked here I might be able to get some hands on accounts.

Thanks for the input.

As far as I know the 2 hour ahead of time arrival has not changed. I share your feelings on Newark being crowded. I wish I had a smaller airport near here.:( Have a wonderful trip!

I have flown out of AC twice now on Spirit. It is great!! There are no lines and the boarding process is quick compare to Phildelphia airport.
I recommend it!!

I have flown ou tof AC airport once. Fine experience, it felt like flying out of any other airport. I have flown spirit airlines out of Laguardia twice and both times were awful experiences. I have traveled quite a bit in my life time and this was the only bad experience.

ONe of my bad experiences was sitting on the runway and the planes engines kept stalling aprox. 5 times and then once in the air. Horrible experience. I think spirit should have switched planes when we were on the run way.

I realize everyone has different experiences but I thought I would share mine.

Go Jetblue! Awesome airline!

I've flown on Spirit out of AC many times and have never had a problem on the flights. Although the prices have been cheaper in the past, it still is worth it to fly out of AC, especially if you live in Central or Southern NJ or even PA. Because AC Airport doesn't charge that much for parking, you can actually save lots of money. So, relax, fly Spirit and have a fun time in Walt Disney World. The only things is that Spirit does not offer any type of frequent flier miles so, if that's important to you, then consider flying another airline.  :D :D :D :D

I'm a student at the University of Central Florida which is located in Orlando and I live in Ocean City, NJ. I've flown out of Atlantic City many times and I still say it's much easier than Philadelphia. The airport is very small so it only takes five minutes to get from the main terminal to your car. And as far as Spirit goes I've arrived 20 - 30 minutes early at my destination with them. For a low budget flight you are rarely delayed. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

We took Spirit just a few weeks ago for our trip. Although the AC airport was out of parking, it was still overall a much easier trip than through Philly. (MUCH CHEAPER!) We ended up parking in a field and being shuttled back but the flight left on time, all staff were very nice and we landed very early. Also, going down and back our luggage was almost waiting for us. The only issue we had was with the legroom on the planes. It was really tight. We also had issue with our trays falling on our laps everytime the person in front of us moved. Don't expect absolute luxury but you can't beat the price.

Flying out of Atlantic City Airport

I have flown out of Atlantic City for the last couple of times that I've flown to Orlando. I have not had any problems with Atlantic City Airport. I usually fly out of Philadelphia International, they are both about the same distance from my home. Fly where you can receive the best deal. The money you save can now be spent at WDW!:)

I looked into Jetblue for my May trip to WDW, but my mother doesn't want to go all the way out to JFK to get the plane. It's about a 2 hour drive from my house. I hope you don't mind me asking, but where in LI are you from? My husband is from LI and he has all of his family there. If you would rather PM me and tell me I will understand.

AC Airport

We always fly out of AC Airport and love it. No hassels, nice people, good service. Used to have free parking but now $4.00 a day. Friday at noon they post cyber specials. We just flew for $64 per flight. You can also pay $40 extra per person for big comfy seats in the front of the plane with lots of leg room if you want to. I'd rather go cheap and scrunch my legs.

Wow! Thanks for all of the input. I think we will be going the AC/Spirit route based on the feedback. I will let you know how it goes after the trip (but unfortunately I have to wait until June).

My family always seems to fly Spirit to Disney World. ACY is so easy to get in and out of. We leave on the early flight. Our routine is to stop at the super Wawa right near the "airport" road. We stop and get some coffee and candy for the plane ride to and fro, since MCO (Orlando International Airport) does not sell gum. Then the drive to the Airport itself is filled with excitement. Then when you see the giant 747 you know you are at the right place. The people at ACY are really nice and helpful. Since Spirit is the major carrier at ACY and they only have about 2 flights out a morning its very quiet. So we then take our breakfast (purchsed a few minutes prior at Wawa) to the dining area on the second floor, and watch our plane get ready and the sun rise. By the time we finish its almost time to board. Boarding with Spirit takes no time, since they dont sell out most flights.
The parking is also very safe and inexpensive (boo hoo hoo, it used to be free).

Spirit Air also just added Spirit Plus on my last trip (we got to be the test group (twice!)). Its very nice, plush leater seats and more leg room. You also get a little meal, it is a box with cheese, crackers, macidamia nuts, candy, rasins, and a few other things. (your seats also recline more in Spirit Plus. I say its well worth the extra 40 dollars.

Also, if you get the chance to be bumped in Orlando (like we were). Its worth it for the free round trip tickets they give you. (I guess it pays to arrive late, thanks to Mears) They put you up in AmeriSuites near the air port (its near no attractions, so dont expect anything special. The rooms are Ok, but after two weeks at the Wilderness Lodge we were not thrilled. The staff was nice, and the driver of the van was happy to take us back to the air port for dinner (we used the meal voucher they gave us) and we ate at Chilies in the air port and looked at the Disney World and Universal stores. Then we went back and I was supperised that they had the disney World channel playing.

Well I know I gave you way more tehn you asked for, and I know you posted this a while ago, but I figured it might help someone.

The best deals I get are online at Spirit's web site http://www.spiritair.com . They offer discounts about a month before the flight, so it might help to book the flight last, adn the e-tickets save time and are cheaper.

good luck with your trip, and remeber gum is not for sale at DIsney World or the Orlando International Airport (I think that store at the Orlando airport, W. Smith, could make some more money if they sold gum).
