Anyone else hate aerial views of the parks?

I'm talking about the google earth type overhead shots. I can't stand these views because they demonstrate so visually that the parks really are just a giant collection of buildings and roads. Now, we obviously all know that this is the case, but when I'm actually in the parks, walking around, I honestly feel like I'm in a different world. The aerial views give me an all-too-honest reminder that I'm not.

Okay, okay, I get that this is a silly post. Just figured I would share and see if anyone else ever feels the same way.

I like the behind the scenes looks at the parks, so I'm a fan of them. When you're at the parks it's not like you can see the roofs of the buildings anyway, so there's nothing that's going to remind you that you're in a giant collection of buildings and roads in the first place, right?

And find the tree farm that planted trees in the shape if a hidden mickey from the air. I think its NW of the parks.

I find it fascinating, actually. I love the operations side of the whole Disney Parks experience. To me, seeing those show buildings and roads and off-stage areas reminds me: 1) what a massive operation it is to run something like WDW, and 2) how Disney does a phenomenal job keeping those areas so hidden from the day-to-day guest experience. It really is remarkable that you can be in one of the parks and "forget" that there is a whole infrastructure supporting it that you don't see.

The next thing your going to tell me is when I used to go to Casa Bonita I wasn't really transported into a quaint village in Mexico...

I think of the buildings as the facade that we see... so It's weird to me that Peter Pan has a white roof... for example... To me it looks nothing like WDW as I see it in my head. So, when I look at the rooftops, I don't see the colors and architecture that I really appreciate when I am there... So, in that sense it is weird to me....


I know that those operations buildings are around there somewhere, but I do not want to think about it...

I totally get that. When I am on property, I like to be lost in the magic as well. I just also find the whole "hidden" world behind the scenes fascinating as well. I like to juxtapose my memories of those facades with the reality of what the buildings are really like. It honestly makes it feel more magical to me.

I love it! I always wanted to know what was behind the MK at night. It always used to look so dark and black and my mind would wander at what could be out there (granted this was back in the early 90's when there was far less surrounding that area). But how could you not like it? I mean how cool is it that you can go anywhere in the World and setup a view as cool as this!!???

Add me to the find it interesting to look at camp. Love seeing how it is all laid out there. The 3D views are particularly interesting.

BTW, I hope I didn't seem like I was attacking you, JusticeDisney. I realize my post was worded in a way that could be seen as inflammatory. I agree there are some aspects of the aerial views that show the less...'glamorous' side of the World. But overall, it's definitely fun to be able to look at and mess with.

No worries at all, friend! I understood your point perfectly. And some of the pictures that you attached are so cool looking that I almost changed my mind on this topic!

Here's a question: does anyone know how (or more importantly, why) Google has recently taken to removing all traces of people from their aerial/satellite photography? If you go into historical images in Google Earth it's still there.
