Hey all a group of myself and freinds are taking the summer to save up and go on out first "non family" disney trip for a little over a week. We are thinking that since we have such a long winter break in 2009 we would go either the first full week or the second full week in january. Any one can give me how the parks are at that time post new years? I shoudl think the weather would be very cool but im worried more about the parks.

Let me know what ever imput you have will be great!!

I've been to WDW a few times in January. Usually we're there the first week. The first week is nice since the holiday decorations are still up! Prices on rooms are ususally cheaper. My sister got $49 a night at Pop a few years ago. Crowds were low. It can get cold for Florida. I always pack windpants, hoodies and sweatshirts and always my stretch "magic" gloves. If you take a backpack, you can keep warmer clothes with you in case it gets cold.

I've never been to WDW in Jan, but I hear that it's great if you like low crowd levels.

According to touringplans.com crowd calendar, the last two weeks of Jan 09 are the best, but all of Jan and the first week of Feb is pretty good, with the exception of MLK weekend (which doesn't look too bad for 09) and Tampa Super Bowl weekend (Super Bowl is 1 Feb), which is expected to be high.

As far as hotel prices go, the rates for 2009 are not posted yet anywhere I can find, but for 2008, the value season was 1/1 to 2/13. It is generally from 1/1 until the week before Presidents' Day sometime. It may exclude MLK weekend, possibly only for shorter stays.

Just remember that during the time the crowds are expected to be lighter, the park hours are shorter. Since you'll be able to get more done during the middle of the day, this may not matter to you, but you should be aware of that; some people are surprised.

We went Jan 29th - Feb 5th and the weather was great. The crowds were not really an issue until the weekend but, that's because it was super-bowl weekend and the start of Mardi Gras week.
