Anybody else notice the flies today at MK?

We were at MK today at 9AM. We rode the train around to Fantasyland and everything was going great until we made our way over to Peter Pan/Small World area. There was an incredible number of flies! They were everywhere. Every way you looked you saw people swatting flies away. We asked a cast member at Peter Pan if she had noticed and she said in 18 years she's worked there she had never seen anything like it before. Later at Pecos Bill's for lunch there were flies all over the condiment bar. Quite repulsive.

Just wondering if anyone else noticed.

Could they have been love bugs?

The love bugs are here. They aren't terrible, though, really.

No, they were definitely flies. I live nearby in Tampa and have sure seen the strange amount of love bugs smashed on my car the past couple of weeks, but these were definitely average run-of-the mill flies. Just lots of them!

I haven't had my car washed in a week. I have like a thousand little corpses on it, lol.

Nope, never seen a bunch of flies in the MK or any other park. Wonder what it was...things that make you go hmmmm.

Was there any food on the ground that they were flying around? Did you smell anything different in the area? Maybe they were attracted to a new smell...

I didn't smell anything dead or fishy. I guess it could have been all the International travelers that don't wear deodorant! :)
It wasn't enough to freak me out, but it was definitely noticeable. The flies, not the B.O. that is.

maybe not anymore. I went years ago and my family rented a car for the trip, we had to refill the windshield fluid twice in a week. we were staying at AKL though so maybe they were worse there, or it was a particularly strong number that season.

Sometimes they are worse than others. We all go through extra window wipey-washy stuff when they come to visit us. :) I like the Rain-X bug stuff, myself.

THEORY .... Another episode to show how further Disney mgt has failed us. Apparently to save staff costs and material cost, the park cleaning staff now changes out the trash bags every three hours, not two, like they used to, allowing flies to congregate in the area.

We're staying about 10 minutes from Disney, and the love bugs haven't been too bad here. However we drove over to the gulf coast the other day, and it sounded like we were going through a rain storm. The car was really a mess after that.

We are staying at the Boardwalk, and we also noticed tons of flies today too. People were leaving the bar area because the flies were everywhere. They were all around the pool. It was the same way in MK a few days ago. Weird!

The smaller common variety.
There is a species of fly that looks a good bit like a mosquito that is common around the water in Florida. Like the love bug they do not bite and when the hatch out the do so in swarms. I have seen them around the lights on the dock at Ft Wilderness so thick that you could not see the poles the lights were mounted on. They tend to disappear in a few days.

awww.... you had to go and be all logical finishing the rest of your post. I can't tell you how ready I was reading to that point, to hear about a conspiracy that to cut costs Disney was hiring hordes of flies in a secret campaign to hide a weapon in the tunnels that no cast members could pass by. the launch button was in Everest since the yeti would never move to touch it by mistake.

Noticed a bunch of flies in MK a couple weeks ago. I'm attributing it to being Florida and WDW being surrounded by swampland. They come and go.

Went Sat 5/11, TONS of flies everywhere. Not love bugs or mosquito looking...just regular looking flies all over the place. Leave your stoller out for a few minutes and come back to it covered in flies. They were all over the park, not just in certain sections...couldn't find a 'clean' area (but did get worse around food areas of course).

In other news, the Saturday before in HS there were swarms of gnats all over the echo lake. Nasty buggers that get into nose/mouth if not careful. :(

I also went last week and it was disgusting there is a huge fly problem right now and I have no idea why, like in every attraction if it was outside I was being touched by flies, now it is lovebug season and they are in the parks too but love bugs I dont mind, as they are not vermin.
