Any theories on why Disney poorly maintains many of their rides?

I don't remember where I found this but this is a partial scope of work for a month long Pirates refurbishment at Disneyland in 2011. I am by no means an apologizing for bad show-- if the company felt that it could not commit to maintain effects it should not have added them in the first place. But the amount of maintenance these kinds of attractions take is simply immense. This is a month and a half worth of fixes for things guests don't see. It takes many dedicated technical professionals to keep the attractions running currently at their current level of safety and operation, just imagine if they had the budget to fix everything else.

Have I told you lately that I 👍 you?
SSE has a screen issue where the future ending rarely works.
Space Mountain is way more rickety than it should be and has none of the enhancements that disneyland's space mountain has, such as improved audio.

Glad I’m not the only one it doesn’t work for! I’ve ridden it probably 6-7 times over three trips since early 2016 and have not even once had my head show up on the ending, no matter what I do when they take the picture at the beginning.

I am not sure which is better, you having no head or mine usually looks like I have had a frontal lobotomy and a large
section of my head is missing. :p

I think the bigger question of having the kind of money that they do, is why only 2 ply in the bathrooms? They can afford to provide us with 4 ply.
Because a spreadsheet somewhere showed they could save money and still stay within what they consider acceptable GHC (Guest Hemorrhoid Count) and AFP (Accidental Finger Poo). ;)

Has anyone from the Paris Park done a cost savings analysis on putting in Bidets in the US? I would suspect that the CBI (clean butt index) would be much higher using water instead of traditional paper. Maybe a test run in the France Pavilion?

I would assume it is getting harder and harder to find the time to properly maintain rides with all the extra events and extended hours.

I am just happy that SM is still there!! One of our favorites for sure, even though it may not be considered politically correct by many.

I am old enough to have watched “Song of the South” and love the charming old Uncle Remus tales, although I can see how they may not fit in today’s world.

Most people don’t make the connection and I don’t think the ride offends.

My fear is that it be done away with or rethemed. Amazing it is still there.

This is the style ride I love the most. Telling a story and sort of meandering and a thrill at the end.

Wish 7DMT had been more like it.

As for SSE, I actually like a break down here and there. More time to sit and relax. Especially when it happens when I am leaned back in my seat looking up at the stars!

I do agree that with the price we pay for our Disney trips, we certainly have the right to expect things to be up and running.

Plus, it is a big bummer if it might be someone’s only chance to see something and they miss out because of lack of maintenance.

Hunh. We were there last week, hadn’t ridden SSE in 20 years so we were seeing all this for the first time, and both our heads showed up correctly on the animation the one time we rode. (Now getting it sent home to us AFTER the ride, that’s a whole different question.)

This response is why I think the title of this discussion is unwarranted. Unless you are in the parks every other week and ride some
of these rides 50 times a year, you more likely than not, are not going to think the rides are poorly maintained. In point of fact
they are not in poor repair. Yes, with any rides, at any parks, running 365 days a year, sometimes you are going to have problems.
However, if the question is are the rides, overall, not well maintained? The answer is no.
