Any shortcuts on how to get to the parks(Epcot or MK) from AKL?

We are toying with staying at AKL, well I am toying, husband doesn't know because I want to surprise him with a unique "not a hotel" experience. We are going CL at either AKL, Poly, CR or AKL. With it being our first trip, I wanted to see if there were tips like when I was planning Wilderness, they said you could boat to the CR and then go by monorail to get to the park or TTC so does the AKL have any shortcuts? Thanks!!

As far as I know, the only way to get to the parks from the AKL is by bus....unless you have a car and then you can drive. I found the AKL the most inconvenient logistic wise of all the deluxe resorts. You have the choice of the monorail, boats and busses for the CR, the GF and the Poly. And yes....you can take a boat from the WL to the CR and hop on the monorail or take a boat directly to the MK. I know that people love the AKL and it is beautiful but I prefer a more convenient location. If you do choose another resort, be sure to visit the AKL and enjoy the wonderful restaurants.....Jiko is my favorite. Good luck and enjoy planning. :cat:

I've been thinking the same thing. Convenience. Maybe AKL for the next trip but I don't want the memory of our first ever trip be "we spent so much time waiting for the bus" or for my husband to give me the "Disneyworld? Your idea turned out great!" LOL

I just stayed at AKL in May. I had rented a car but since I found myself there unexpectedly by myself, after 27 plus trips, I decided to try the buses. They were great. I was so surprised. Never waited long although the ride to the parks and DTD did take a long time as AKL is so far out. I did like the fact that the bus went right to MK and I bypassed the TTC which I can't do when I have a car.

We spent quite a lot of time waiting for buses during our AKL stay, but it wasn't that big a deal.
The bus waiting area at AKL is actually a really pleasant place to be.
We packed a bunch of styrofoam cups in our luggage so we could just chill out and drink our hotel room coffee there in the mornings.
They're fully covered, there's plants all around you, and you can enjoy the resort-music-loop they pipe in.

Most resort bus waiting areas aren't this nice.
The Pop and All Star bus stops, by comparison, are miserable.

I have to agree that the waiting areas in AKL is gorgeous and is actually quite an enjoyable experience when you grab yourself a cold drink. FWL is also of the same ilk. I stayed at all star music a while back and with no seating its terrible (although the wait was always minimal)

The bus system at AKL I found to be quite good and hardly ever waited for a bus coming or going. Yes the ride to MK can be a bit longer but it's not bad at all IMO

I think that you will find that the bus waiting area at all of the deluxe resorts are covered with overhead fans and ample seating....maybe with the exception of the WL where I found the seating quite sparse. This never seemed fair to be since I have heard that the bus waiting area in the value resorts is lacking in comfort and guests have no transportation choices at those resorts. Busses are the only way to get from point A to point B. The deluxe resorts have the monorail and/or boats to help with guest transportation. I would think that Disney would make the wait at moderate and value reports more comfortable. :cat:
