Any other 'regulars' still look for new things to do each visit

I've been visiting Disney for nearly 40 years now and been coming with Mrs Merg and before she was even Mrs Merg, annually for the last 13. Anyhow in order to appear to be a thoughtful husband (this perception makes for a better life gents who don't know any better, believe me), I try to find new stuff to do each visit. I'm not talking new attractions although we obviously do try these, but more new restaurants, shows or activities within the world etc.

We've got less than two weeks to go now before our trip and this year for instance I'm thinking about taking her either horse riding or on a horse and carriage type ride. In the past I've also taken her boating, tried different character meals along with booking restaurants with firework views etc. So out of interest do any of those others who visit quite often try to discover new experiences and if so, what have you come up with?

While there isn't really a whole lot we haven't done in the parks (35+yrs for me) we always try to do something new each trip. Maybe its a restaurant or new hotel or maybe its just pool hopping to a place we haven't been. It is always good to have that one new experience each trip. This year it was staying at the beach club and going to beaches and cream.

I understand your dilemma, as I share it. Finding something new is a challenge that needs to be risen to, if one wants to keep the other half happy. So I put together a list of things on and off property that we haven't yet done. Here are a few things we have recently done to add that one new experience to a trip:

Golfing - There are multiple new courses about to do something new.
Bowling - Splits ville is fun.
Fishing - Yup, you can fish on property.
WWoHP - Go see Harry and the new stuff off property. (careful, some pixie dust may get blown off.)
New Hotel options- There are many.... Try the new villas at GF or the newer on property offerings.
Take a Trek - Backstage and specialty tours can take you places others can't go.

Unfortunately, as these are probably most obvious, you may have already done them. If all else fails, hit a restaurant you've never been to.

Good Luck....

We always stay at a different hotel and we try at least one new restaurant every trip. Last year, we planned on trying one of the mini golf courses, but we ended up going to Sea World for the day. One of the things that really makes each trip so different is experiencing Disney with my girls as they get older. When they were little, it was all about the characters. Now as pre-teens, we can all enjoy the thrill rides together (finally!). As they get even older, it will be something completely different that we share together. Kids keep it fresh for me. This probably doesn't help you though...

This trip was going to be a solo trip, really need to recharge my batteries before the year end hassle at work. My husband suggested taking my sister so I told her my plans rides are almost last on the list. I want to take time to watch the entertainment in WS. Glad made the plans before found out about Off Kilter leaving. I want to wonder through the art store. I want to see some of the resorts I haven't been to yet. It's been years since I have spent any time in DTD. Most of all I want to see the flag ceremony at sunset in MK.

new??? new you say....ha...I don't think so. If you don't believe me....ask my husband. I don't like new...give me familiar, beloved attractions. OK, so I am a bit dramatic, but honestly I always think we will try new things and then we arrive and we go so caught up in enjoying the parks, attractions, shows, etc., that we don't make it to those new things. Someday I will make that time. I should say I don't do 'new' well in the real world either.

I finally broke down after 6 months of car shopping to replace my beloved "Betty" a '97 Buick Century with 200,000+ miles on her. I've had the new car three weeks and today my teen daughter finally convinced me to sync my phone. lol. I hate change...and I still have 'Betty' as a back up and the car my daughter now drives. lol new comes slow to me...old soul I guess.

I try to do a new dining experience each trip. Preferably a new restaraunt, but also trying breakfast for the first time at a restaraunt where we have only had supper, or vice versa.

Each of the parks have lots of different tours that you might try. We did Wild Africa Trek for the first time after coming to the parks with our kids for the past seven years or so and it was fantastic.

On the slightly cheaper side, I've always wanted to do the Behind the Seeds greenhouse tour at the Land, but we always ended up eating or walking around world showcase instead.

Try taking a tour.

Keys to the Kingdom is excellent, and I always wanted to try the UnDISCOVER FutureWorld Tour.

If you're brave enough, try parasailing over Bay Lake/Seven Seas.

Rent a pontoon boat at DTD.

If you got some extra cash, try the Richard Petty Driving Experience.

My next "new thing" is to skip the parks and take a cruise. I want to give the parks some time to either get something new or to feel fresh again. Currently, it's just too expensive to go back and do the same things over and over again.

Absolutely! We have gone to WDW at least once per year since 1995. I am embarrassed to say that we have not seen all of the films in WS yet. We always make a point to do something new whether it is an attraction that has been there forever that we never took the time to see or stop at a food location that we have walked by and never stopped in. There is seemingly limitless possibilities of 'new' things to see/do on each trip which is what I tell people when they ask why we go there so often.

We seem to always find something unique to do, we pour through the various guide books and find something weve missed or overlooked. Then we also try planning one or two trips outside the Disney property, there are many interesting things to do in the Orlando area like dinner theaters & shows worth taking the time to do. But sometimes just changing up the way we arrange our days visit and do the attractions make it seem new and unique enough.

Each trip I try to go to one restaurant I haven't been or try a new show or take a tour. Last trip I went parasailing and that was awesome!

Here's a short list, in no particular order, of things that might not be part of the "usual" touring plans, IMHO.
  • parasailing
  • fireworks cruise
  • bike ride @ Ft Wilderness
  • carriage ride @ Ft Wilderness
  • La Nouba
  • Wild Africa Trek (or any other tour)
  • archery lesson
  • learn to ride a Segway
  • Characters in Flight
  • hunt down all the pressed penny machines
  • go fishing
Or, as blasphemous as it may sound, go off property for an airboat ride or visit Harry et al. :cautious:
