Just wondering if anyone has any news on the POFQ refurb? Everyone seems to be pretty tight lipped about it. Nothing on the fb pages about what the new rooms will look like or anything!

I believe the refurb is happening May through November.
Yes I know that is what the website says. Just wondering if anyone has any additional info. Like what the rooms will look like? Are they moving from 2 queen beds to a queen pull down bed? Things like that :)

I normally stay at French Quarter but could not get a room for December, I assume because of the refurb, so I ended up at Riverside.

@danlb_2000 , you just posted more permits for general construction on some buildings. Do you know if these are the same company doing the refurb, or for something unrelated?

Not sure. Those rooms were already covered by permits from Balfour Beatty back in February, these permits are from a different contractor.

i hope they don’t go with the pull down murphy bed. wasn’t a fan of those. only slept on them twice & back pain & stiffness for a day or 2.

You are talking about the queen pull down bed, not the single and not the pull out couch right? My understanding was they use the same mattresses on the pull down queen beds and the regular queen beds.

So strange too...I wonder whey they're doing some refurb on the Wilderness this year and next when they're having the pool at Yacht/Beach shut down next year for months. That's two resorts with work...

it was the queen pull down bed at the movies resort. i don’t know if they do use the same mattresses or not. it was a couple of years since our last stay there. could be a fluke, but i joked about the entire trip. told my wife “oh great. now we have to use the same bed.” i’m surprised i didn’t sleep in the tub after that.

It is not unusual to have multiple resorts with refurbishments/construction at the same time. This year so far GF, Poly, WL, Boardwalk, Beach Club, POFQ, and All Stars have all had ongoing work. Hard goods replacement usually occurs every 6-8 years. Rooms take a beating, even with declining occupancy. Exteriors are prone to the effects of the strong Florida sun and storms.

My adult daughter hates the pull downs too. Despite having the same mattress as a bed, it is not the same support. She has slept on a pull down at Pop, ASM, WL (DVC) and Poly (DVC).

Thank you Tuvala we were looking for somewhere else to stay next year with WL and BC/YC having work done. We haven't stayed at the Contemporary. Is that a nice hotel to stay at?

It was before the rooms were re-themed to The Incredibles, in my opinion. I find the IP to be garish in this iconic resort. The Contemporary was our go-to from 1975-1995. Sadly I have no interest in staying there now. Additionally when we stayed at Bay Lake Tower in the fall of 2022, the bus service from Contemporary to DHS, AK and DS was awful.

Anywhere else you can recommend? I would gladly stay at the Four Seasons, but someone would vote me down.

I’m sure the Four Seasons is very nice but it is too pricey for me. The resort with the best value for me is Gran Destino Tower at Coronado Springs, deluxe amenities at a moderate price. Good views, good restaurants, great themed pool and quiet pool.

The Polynesian was my #1 fave from late 90s to late 20 teens, before the arrival of the bungalows and DVC. The resort is too crowded now and lost much of its appeal for me. The new Poly tower will only make it worse.

I’ve had wonderful stays at the Grand Floridian (cheaper than Four Seasons) and a lovely recent stay at Boardwalk Inn.

My new #1 is WL - even with construction. Just returned from my 4th stay this year.

We were going to stay at the Gran Destino Tower one time, but we were not sure about the travel time to the parks. So, we stayed at BC instead. Thank you for your wonderful suggestions. The BC/YC pool is truly always a win win for us...
