Any news on a return date for Hoop-De-Doo Revue and the Polynesian Luau shows?

Yeah I've heard the unfortunate rumor as well, that the Luau is a goner. They probably want to add more rooms like Grand Flo did.
Did we ever get any solid evidence of this though? I know that the rumour was pressing but Disney has said just as much about the luau as hoop and everyone just assumes hoop will be back. If the luau doesn’t come back I think Poly needs to add dining capacity somewhere, the second floor is always a zoo.

I really hope Hoop comes back. It’s a nice respite and unique. It is not only a good, well-themed show, it is one of the few glimpses we have today at the humor of vaudeville and the touring medicine shows of the 1800s. It is also a great tie-back to Disneyland. It was developed from the concepts of the show Wally Boag did so well for decades in Frontierland at Disneyland. And everyone I know who has experienced it loved it.

Management at the Polynesian has gone as far as telling Guests that they have no plans to return the show.

Nope, but where there's smoke there's usually fire.

It would be awesome if they added another main building with dining options. Because it feels like a lot of stuff in a little area. Plus I find the Poly's lobby underwhelming compared to Animal and Wilderness.

The Poly lobby used to be awesome then Disney in their infinite wisdom down graded it to its current run of the mill hotel chain lobby

I guess you could build a building that would house both Trader sams and Ohana and that would push the day guests away from the lobby. The biggest complaint for me at the poly is the congestion that is caused by day guests.

Still makes no sense for a Hawaiian themed resort not to have a luau. Period.
Welcome to WDW 2022.

Except it does make sense: Disney wants to make as much money as possible and that is prime spot to do it. The luau was not making money most of the day.

They could put a combo DVC and Moana themed character meal there, and it would probably do pretty well serving 2-3meals/day.

where did you get the luau wasn't making money?
That’s what I don’t get from this rumour, that luau was very popular and profitable. There’s just as much proof that this isn’t coming back as Hoop. Taking a wait and see on this. They’ll have to say something when they announce HDDR retuning, either they both are or the luau will get the “it’s retiring to make way for new magic” send off.

Personally, I have no idea but insiders had reported in the past that the Spirit of Aloha did not sell nearly as well as Hoop and has been on life support for a while. Might also have been harder to find performers since I would expect they'd want to find people authentically Polynesian and not be be accused of "whitewashing".

That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see a different show appear that has some elements of Spirit of Aloha but maybe adds Moana and/or Lilo to try to make it have a wider appeal for families (not that it wasn't cool as is, but "more Disney" and all that).

Yep, I thought it was great as is. But I can see why they replaced it though. The fountain took up a lot of space and caused more foot traffic.

Unforgivable though is the replacement statue, it is pretty pathetic, they could have went with something grander.

LOL They don't/won't have to say something about the luau. It will just never be mentioned again and management will hope people forget about it

And I would always plug up with the mold and stuff. It smelled so bad at the end. As much as I loved the old lobby and am a huge Polynesian fan (heading in 10 days) the new lobby is more usable and is an improvement. I know change is hard for many though but I can spend hours here happily.

As for the luau, CMs at Polynesian have been saying it won't return. I believe it. That was one of their worst shows. Really lousy food too.

I can understand why its chances of returning is poor. If it does come back hopefully it will be revamped and bring a better show to the guests. The first time we attended years ago the food was excellent and the show fabulous. The next time we returned with friends, hoping to share a good time with them who had never been, the food was less than meh and the act was uninspiring. We quickly cut it out of our trip plans as a waste of time and money. Im surprise it lasted as long as it had since it had been getting poor reviews for some time.
