Any love for Old Town?

I searched for Old Town threads, and they go back from a year+ ago - so might as well do-up a new thread.

ANYWAYS...any love for Old Town?

Years ago, my family started driving down to Florida with a tent (then a tent became a camper after our first tent experience in FL), and we love camping at Tropical Palms (still do to this day).

That's when we learned about Old Town...since it's a nice little walk from the camp ground. Most Disney CPs don't know about it, since it's driving distance from their apartments (and I know some that aren't even familiar with 192).

The locals, on the other hand, very much knows about it.

So I ask ya - who else loves Old Town?

We usually go to Old Town once a trip.I don't know why because the shops are nothing special just a flea market mostly but something about it has a allure to it.I must say I do have to get my glass bottled Pepsi each time while there.

50 cents? When other machines in the area charge 2.00. Sounds like a bargain to me.

I remember when it was Coke, and it only cost a nickel. It was supposed to be like an old country store back then. Old Town is a lot different now - not my cup of tea.

We usually stay close by, and go a couple times a trip. The Saturday night drive ins are great. I love all the old cars. The stores are nothing special, but it is something to do the first night in town, or if a park closes early.

I haven't been to Old Town for a few years but it always reminded me of pre-Disney Florida. Please understand, I'm not saying that Disney has ruined Florida, its just changed since the Mouse moved in. My Godparents moved to Orlando in the mid-60's and we visited them every summer so I've witnessed some of the changes firsthand. We were there for the Disney-themed Thanksgiving parade after the BIG announcement was made. Anyway, Old Town was fun with its flea market atmosphere.

Like that big orange store on 192, which has some history on its own.

Thanks, mentioning the big Orange store brings back memories. Also, the first time we went to WDW (Magic Kingdom only park) we stayed at the Days Inn on Sandsomething road and there was NOTHING between the hotel and the entrance to WDW. Then we took the long drive on Disney property as the anticipation built. Now, there is so much stimulation arriving at the park of choice is almost anit-climatic (until once inside of course!).
