Hey everyone I'm just trying to see if there's anyone on these boards that either currently attends UCF in orlando or is starting there in the fall like me. If there are, please respond with some tips or anything you wanna tell me about the school. I have orientation on Monday and Tuesday and I'm stoked about starting in the fall :sohappy:

Yes. If you need anything, it can pretty much be found at the Waterford Lakes Center. You have a Best Buy, Office Max, Super Target, Regal Cinema, tons of places to eat, furniture stores and all sorts of other stuff right there. Just a short drive down Alfaya Trail. Best way to get to WDW from there is either a straight run down 417, or for some variety, take the 417-528-I4 trifecta. 417 is practically a guarantee of not much traffic, if any at all, but there are more expensive tolls. If you are coming from out of State and plan on driving, then I would recommend picking up a SunPass from your local Publix. Saves time on getting through the tolls. The East-West Expressway(408) is going to be one of your closest major highways, but from where you are, you don't need to take it to get to 417 the way I do, since from UCF there is practically a straight line to 417. Anything else you want to know? I can answer specific questions if you like.

I am a Golden Knight! I start this fall at Rosen College of Hospitality Management on Int'l Drive.

I'll be a second semester sophomore when I get there.

They turned the McDonalds on University Blvd into a UCF shrine months back (it's still a McDonalds though) and you can pay with your student ID card as well.

But I've been through college already (thank god) :D :D

How far is WDW from UCF? I've heard that it's actually quite a ways away. I've also been told that it's hard to get anywhere from UCF without going on a toll road, if that's true, how expensive are the tolls?

Are you in a dorm or do you have your own place? I'll be in a dorm for at least the first year then probably get an apartment after that.

You are a good 45 minutes from WDW. You would either take University over to 417 (Toll Road) or take Alafaya Trail south (through a bunch of lights) to Curry Ford Rd, over to 417.

Pretty much the area you are in you have to take 417 the whole way or to cut the trip down a bit a save maybe $0.50-$1.00 each way, hop onto the Bee Line (another Toll Rd) to I-4(not a toll road).

If you take 417 the whole way, it will be $3.25 each way, $6.50 round trip. Going 417 to Bee Line to I-4, might save you $1-2 round trip. The good thing about 417 is there rarely, if ever, any traffic. But it's about 5-10 minutes longer than hopping onto the Beel Line & then I-4. 417 will also lead right into Celebration as well.

Hope that makes sense. :D

They just built new dorms that are opening this fall at the Rosen campus but I won't live there. I'm getting my own place in Celebration. I want to be close to work (WDW) and school at the same time.

Makes sense to me..kinda. I don't really know the area all that well but I have a pretty good grasp on it. How much is the Sunpass?

I graduate from UCF this December (fingers crossed), but I take my classes all in Brevard County (since that's where I live) at the Cocoa Campus. Always glad to meet another Golden Knight!

According to the website, www.sunpass.com/ the initial cost is $25 + tax for the transponder, then an initial deposit upon activation of $25. Then you just tell them how much you want it to replenish to when needed and you can set it up to auto-deduct from your checking account.

And don't worry about not knowing the area well. It's pretty easy to get the main roads down quickly, then you just start figuring out the shortcuts.
