We have always asked to stay on the top floor with the entrance overlook. Not the greatest view, but you can see most of the Epcot fireworks from your balcony and it's the fewest amount of points to use. Oh, and you also want to stay about halfway down the corridor.
My kids also used to enjoy some of the entertainment on the boardwalk in the evening.
Which type of accommodation do you have booked? There are different categories at BWV and room location advice would depend on that.
As far as I know those rooms overlooking the lawn in front of the lobby are only studios with "Garden or Pool View".
For breakfast items you don't only have the Boardwalk Bakery which usually gets long lines, but also the Bellevue Lounge sells pastries in the morning. It is across the lobby from the Villas, in the "Inn" part of the resort (with normal hotel rooms).
You can also see wishes from the Boardwalk if you look across the lake towards the Yacht and Beach Club. It is very far in the distance, but a nice bonus if you happen to be around at that time.
We really enjoyed breakfast at Fresh at the Dolphin as well as dinner at the Fountain at the Dolphin. Both also have a discount for DVC members.
Try the clown slide at the main pool, it is really great!
Oh, and if you get a refillable mug, there is no place where you can refill it yourself. You will have to show your mug and then you get a paper cup with the drink of your choice. I think the places are: Boardwalk Bakery, Seashore Sweets, Bellevue Lounge and the pool bar.
Hope this helps! We just stayed there in October and loved walking to Epcot and DHS. It is a great resort.
We have a one bedroom "preferred" reservation. So I'm hoping that will give the opportunity to get a room on the top floor with a view of the Boardwalk and some of Epcot.
It is very much a hike, we got top floor, pool view right at the end, took quite a time to get there lol but to be fair they did upgrade us because it was our honeymoon lol
