any advice on how to allocate the days?

Since you haven't been in awhile, might I remind you that you will be walking a lot. We usually go to AK early and in the middle of the week (you can get on KS without a FP even if you're a little late to rope drop); you can see everything (unless you want to go to Rafiki's Planet Watch) in about 5 hours or less (also depending on Nemo and FotLK show times) and then relax at the resort or take a swim-depending on the season of our trip. I know a lot of people try to cram DTD after AK, but that's a lot of walking, especially on a "take-it-easy" day.

5th day- spur of the moment. If there's something at a certain park you didn't get to do or want to do again, go for it.

I concur fully with Mr. Black. Do 1 day at each of the parks for your first four days, then return to the one that had the most other things that you didn't get to that interested you. When my wife and I went before kids, we spent more time at Epcot than anywhere else, but that was over a decade ago and lots has changed!

Well first off, never say never. The DWF and I have kids all grown and go back all the time. Why? Because their is so much to do and a ton of fun to be had. WDW is also for Adults and especially for the adults who are young at heart. Now if you budget allows get park hopper tickets which will allow you to just jump between all the parks as much as you want for you duration. This way you don't have to be confined to one park for the day if don't want to. For the DWF and I this is great and we love to just sometimes move on when a park is to crowded or we feel we would like to see something else.

after thinking over all your responses... we've decided to add an extra day on! so now we're thinking 2mk, 2epcot, 1 AK, 1 HS.
my wife thinks I'm going a little over board with the planning of this trip! lol

now the issue: i have already bought 5 day tickets quite some time back and have linked them to mydisneyexperience. do I just call them up and ask to have it changed to a 6 day? what kind of added expense am i looking at? i'm going in end of march

If the tickets are part of a package just call and they will upgrade them. If you bought the tickets separate I'm not sure but think you can still upgrade by phone. If not, you can definitely do it at guest services at any park as long as you upgrade before using the last day of your tickets.

The difference between a 5 day ticket and a 6 day ticket is $10.65 per person. If you have the time it is well worth the extra expense. I think your 6 day plan sounds great!!

My husband & I go (we don't have kids) to MK at least 2 days, Epcot 2 days, & HS 1. AK is not worth it to us. I only like the safari & he only likes mount everest. I think with kids you can get more out of AK.

Didn't read all the posts after the OP, so this may be a repeat...

My suggestion would be 1 day at each park(you have to see each park!) and leave the 5th day open. After going to all the parks, decide on which you need to still do more at or want to see more at after seeing them the first time. Despite what some folks say, AK is a full day park if you see it all. Many who say it is a 1/2 day park skip some shows or attractions. Yes AK does close earlier than the others, but a possible dinner at Boma at the AKL that night would work in well for you.

The only reason that we ever have stayed at DHS after say 5pm is for Fantasmic!

From your list of 3 options... I would go 1 Epcot, 2MK, 1 DHS, 1 AK. This is provided that you are into the whole MK fantasy thing(which is fine.) However, if you are the type who likes sampling drinks around the world and spending time in each country watching the movie, shows, or attractions... switch the # of days at Epcot and MK.

EDIT: Now that I see you are adding a day, the breakdown of 2 MK, 2 Epcot, 1 DHS and 1 AK seems right. When you get there and see the parks on the first day, you can still change that second day to one of the others if needed. Personally one full day at Epcot is plenty for us... and we usually spend a second day at AK. So I say, still decide on how you want to use those extras days after visiting all the parks the first time. Your money, your time... your call!

This is my vote. Both MK and Epcot CAN be two day experiences, but it depends on the type of person and the crowd conditions that day. I would save the fifth day for any park you most feel like returning to after everything else.

EDIT: just saw the other posts, never mind :)

We usually do 2 Epcot, 1 MK then 1/2 day at each HS and Ak. The other 1/2 days are in the parks that we want to do more rides. Monday -MK Tuesday - Epcot Wed - HS 1/2 Epcot 1/2 Thursday - 1/2 AK 1/2 Epcot Friday - epcot am MK pm for fireworks
