Anthrax Scare At Haunted Mansion

This hit my inbox this morning, but I knew that no one would believe me if I had just posted this out of the blue. So here is proof of the incident at HMH yesterday:

>>>A woman walked into the Mansion last night with a bag of stuff. As the attraction went on, the ride opperators noticed the lady throwing around what looked like white dust. When she came off the Mansion, the bag was completely empty.

Well they closed the Mansion down and had the crew come in. They thought it might possibly be Anthrax. Well the crew said it was not, they said it was body ashes.

They found the women and questioned her about it. She said her son had recently passed away and that he was a huge fan of the Haunted Mansion and she wanted it to be his final resting place.

This woman now has to pay $5,000 dollars for all the trouble she caused. For the clean up crew, for the time Mansion had to go down, and for some other things.<<<

Geez, you just can't make this stuff up...

I'm sure this kind of thing happens all the time. WDW is a magical place and the source of many happy family memories.

It's not too hard to imagine someone saying, "Forget the fancy funeral--all of you go to Disney World instead."

However, Haunted Mansion is a little too public a place for scattering cremains (yes, that's really what they call them. Cool word, huh?).

But I would be willing to bet that there are quite a few cremains in out of the way corners of the park, or in the gardens of the resorts.

I agree! I've already made it clear that I want mine spread out off some of the trails at Fort Wilderness (kind of morbid to talk about I guess huh?). Anyway, inside an attraction is an entirely different thing. While I feel for this woman, that was really a pretty stupid (and frankly, selfish) thing to do.

We are not talking about a handful of ashes.

If her son was an adult, it would be about 5 pounds worth. Think in terms of a bag of flour. That's quite a lot.

Sorry, no urban legend (I think). From what I heard, the incident occured Thursday at around 10:45.

Can a cast member verify this?

It wouldn't surprise me if this was real...somebody came on a different Disney message board a few months ago asking if they could do something similar to this (it wasn't haunted mansion, but somewhere else at WDW).

Someone here asked that too.

Here is basically the same story, but with a few more details. This was on Mouseplanet.com this morning.

Ashes to Ashes...
The Haunted Mansion has long advertised itself as home to 999 happy haunts — but always looking for one more. Last Saturday night, December 14, guests took Disneyland up on its offer.

The small group of visitors arrived at the Mansion late in the evening and asked for their own stretching room (elevator). They explained that their 7-year-old boy died recently, and the Haunted Mansion was his favorite ride. They wanted to take time to pray and have a quick memorial service for him. Even though the queue was crowded, the lead granted their request.

The party proceeded through the attraction without incident, until their Doom Buggies were well on their way. Suddenly, via the hidden camera monitors, the host in the tower noticed one of the guests throwing a powdery substance out her Buggy. Instead of stopping the attraction, the operator repeatedly asked the party to not throw anything on the ride. When they didn't stop, he called a lead, but it was too late. The guests had exited and vanished into the crowded park.

A cast member was sent into the ride to investigate, and he detected what a smattering of dust, "gray, like ash." Disney couldn't take any chances. The crew cycled out the vehicles and evacuated the attraction. Soon, park security, the fire department, Anaheim police, and about every manager in the park were on the scene.

Investigators identified the substance as "human remains." Eventually custodians were called to clean the ride and disinfect the culprits' vehicles, Buggies 49 and 50. The closure lasted hours.

"I don't know what bothers me more, that these people could do this with no concern for the law or those who work there," said one onlooker. "Or that the cast member didn't stop the ride immediately — what if it had been something lethal? Or maybe it is the fact that they couldn't get it all and some went under the track and down into the ballroom and now it will always be there. Or maybe just the fact that now a majority of this boy's remains are in the bottom of a Disney trash can. I am horrified, however you look at it."

I would be more likely to believe that someone says that while riding the ride, they developed breathing problems from the cremated remains floating around in the air, and sue Disney for 1 billion dollars (said like Dr. Evil).

We did have a similar incident that happened here at our HM at WDW with a woman but she did it in the attraction and just left a little trail of white powder. She asked one of the cast members if she could and they said no but she did it anyways. I have had a incident one time when the ride went down and when I went to tell the guests at the doors waiting that we were closed a woman asked if it was because of an anthrax scare because her child was smeared with some water from a strangers bag as it brushed up against her son, it had been raining that day.

On Doom Buggies.com, they say that that's happened lots of times. It even says that cast members that work in the Haunted Mansion have seen the boy's ghost. They say that they've seen a boy near the end of the ride crying. :lookaroun  :lookaroun OOOHHHHHHHH!!!! That's sooooooooooooo creepy!!!!!!
