I'm going to Disneyland in mid-August, while there I wanted to take advantage of the "free roam" characters. I'm making a Disneyland itinerary now, and I was intending to stay in the Main Street U.S.A. and Fantasyland area until the early afternoon before we get on the train to New Orleans Square. Do you know where most of the characters gather? My mission is to get as many autographs and pictures as possible. Also is it a good idea to spend nighttime at Critter Country/New Orleans Square/ Frontierland in the night? I hear it gets pretty congested during Fantasmic. I'll post my itinerary online as soon as the final plans come together. I want your opinion. I want to make sure I have the perfect Disneyland experience.

If you are looking for Peter Pan, Snow White, and (sometimes) the Evil Queen, they should be near the well towards the far right of the castle. Mickey and Friends gather at Main Street. Cruella may even be there! If you can, see if you can get to the show that starts around 5:00PM in Frontierland. (Half of it is closed, though, because of BTMR. Alice may be near the teacups. And I don't know about the princesses..
I don't know for others, the pixies may be near their spot..idk
As for the Calfornia Adventure (if you go there), the Newsies type of Mickey, Pluto, and Goofy are there. Sailor Donald is near Paradise Pier. You should be able to meet Ariel somewhere..
That's all I can remember, really. I've only been to Disneyland twice for 2 days each..

I see free roaming characters at the entrance, in front of the Opera House on a daily basis.

How many days do you have at the DL resort?

Yes and No. I intend to go on most of the rides
If you stay on Main St and in Fantasyland during the least crowded hours of the park, you will not see most of the attractions.

DL has a lot of free roaming characters. The spots I would recommend checking are the entrance, Opera House, Toontown and the platform in New Orleans Square in front of Cafe Orleans.

There are some obvious character meets in Pixie Hollow, Princess Faire and the houses in Toontown.

Toontown is only going to have Donald, Goofy, Chip n Dale, et al. NOS is going to only have Tiana, though she may be meeting in the Court of Angels now.

The entrance/main St area, Back and Side of castle, Thunder trail, and Hollywood backlot are the best shots for random greets at the resort. Everything else should be on the times guide.
