It cracks my up that a magicband and a finger is accepted to get you in and out of 100 dollar a day parks countless times in a year, but if you want to save 3 dollars on a purchase or pick up a magnet, it's like crossing an eastern European border during the cold war. Papers Please!

Exactly.

Not cool enough to make me schedule any time in that park though. It's a pretty desperate effort to get anyone to bother stepping foot in there, I think. Even though AP holders have effectively paid for admission anyway, still they probably aren't bothering scheduling time there, I know I'm not.
We are basically going to see Santa and get our magnets.

I guarantee these will be under lock and key. If it's anything like the 3 cent Food and Wine buttons they're going to need your annual pass and a photo ID. The enforcement of these types of rules really grates at me. It's the penny pinching at the cost of annoying your guests. What are they really gaining here?

I saw it as more of a show for us AP. Make us feel that they are really exclusive. I don’t see a problem with that.

Would the year have killed em? It's seasonal already, so go whole hog and make it year specific.

Hot take: I HATE year specific merch. Maybe it’s because I’m not a vacationer, so it doesn’t help point to specific memories from a yearly trip. My wife has a perfectly fine 2014 WDW drawstring bag and every year since I have to convince not to buy a new one. Her only reasoning: it’s outdated now because of the year....

I mean... it's an AP exclusive. What's the point of making AP items to giveaway if you just carelessly toss them to every guest that walks up to get one. An AP always has their card and ID on them. Not sure why this is a big deal.

At Food and Wine they had set up switchbacks for the buttons because the process was more than show AP, get button. It's unnecessarily excessive. The same thing happens when you present your AP for a discount or at the parking gates.

For a company that is looking to streamline the concept of buying something with a simple tap of the wrist, any time I have to take my ID out it feels like a transaction. It defeats the purpose. An alternative would be to attach a photo to the annual pass. Most of the registers have a screen where an image could appear much in the same way it does at Disneyland's park entrance.

So yes, I say they're pinching pennies as dollars go over their head. They spend $1.5 billion - $3 billion (depending on who you ask) on My Magic + in an attempts to make your vacation feel all inclusive. This is a wholly unnecessary impediment to that. For me, that's further acknowledgement of the programs failure.

I'm asking them to think smarter.

While I'm pointing out dumb stuff that bothers me, "Hey Credit Card companies, put the chip on the other side of the card or put the numbers on the back. When you put the chip in the reader it leaves the important numbers exposed for anyone with eyes."

it is the same deal again for this.

Typical.

My only issues with having to show my ID is that they write the AP names on the passes in sharpie, so mine has long since rubbed off. I wish they had a card printer that printed your name and AP expiration date on the back of the card. That would make it much easier to verify your AP is active and you are the AP holder.
Your name is attached to the card though. So they have to scan the AP and then look at your ID.

Exactly. It's unnecessary.

Does anyone know if they had something during Festival of The Arts last year for AP's? I'm curious to know since I'm out there during it's 2nd run..

Universal and SeaWorld both do the same for their AP stuff. If it's that much of an inconvenience to you to pull out your Wallet like we had to for 41 years before MagicBands came along (which you love to hate on), then just save your time and don't get the free thing. Easy.
I have never been made to show ID at Universal Orlando Resort or SeaWorld Orlando over the past decade. The pass alone has always been sufficient.
