Annual Passholder question

I'd like to buy AP's for the rest of my family before we go on our next trip. I want to purchase them a month or 2 before we go so we can have FP all set up and the magic bands before we leave. My question is does the AP year start the day that I purchase them? or the day that I actually set foot in a park?

If you buy the AP from a Disney Store, or online you should get a voucher that you need to redeem when you get to the parks to claim the actual AP. Then the AP would start on the day you redeem it. If you buy it at the parks, then it starts that day.

Thank you so much! That's the answer I was hoping for! If I redeem the voucher in the park, how will it work regarding the magic band?

Once the voucher number is linked to your MDE account, you should be able to go ahead and make your MB customization choices. The MDE site will also tell you when to expect the bands to ship. If your trip is still more than two months away (sounds like it from your first post), they should arrive in plenty of time for the trip.

On the voucher will be a number that you will use to link the AP voucher to your MDE account. At that point you can make FP+ reservations like anyone else, and would be able to get MBs like anyone else. So if you are staying on property, they will need to be customized no later than 30 days out to be sent to your hosue, 10 days out to pick up at hotel, otherwise you get plain gray on check in. If you aren't staying on property at some point the system will realize that you added an AP to your MDE account and should let you customize bands. I vaguely recall reading somewhere that this only happens once you have used the APs, but don't quote me on that.

Actually, this does not happen. You can link the voucher but you do not get the band notification until you go to the park and activate the ticket. I purchased the passes for my sons and did not get the magic bands. I contacted customer service, they helped me link the voucher but again no bands. They told me that once they are activated the bands will appear. I go this weekend, and will be activating them. I will report back Saturday or Sunday and let you know if the bands appear on my mde.

If you are staying onsite, then you will get a magic band. It will not be the blue one with the little Mickey ears slide though. You won't get that one until you activate your AP. Well, that's how's it's been until now, but things change all the time.

And don't expect it to come in a timely fashion, I ordered my AP Magic Band the first day they became available and I still have not received it, I have called twice, and been told that it is on backorder because they have run out of the AP Discount Cards that come with it.

Really? I just got another set with my renewal. That is odd.

Wow. We've had ours for a long time. We didn't even order ours. We just got an email that they were on the way. It may be that we were there in Nov. onsite and we'll be onsite starting Sunday and again in June.
I got a new Discount card the other day because they said my first one had the wrong date on it. I looked, and it was one day off. So, they must have cards if they can send me two.

Yeah, I still haven't received mine either.
