Annual passes & illness

Hi -

I couldn't find a thread that dealt with Annual Passes.

Last June we bought annual passes (DVC discount). We were there in June for about 8 days.

We had plans for the last week of December, mid- March and again in June (before AP expiration).

Well, I (dad) was diagnosed with Acute Myelitic Leukemia on Dec. 1st. Spent the next 37 days in the hospital fighting the AML into remission. Back home recovering now.

So we missed our Dec. dates at Disney.

Now I have follow-up chemo treatments in Feb, April, May. By mid-June I may be approaching normal health.

So here's the question. Since we can't use the AP while I'm unable to travel due to health, is there any way to get Disney to extend the APs by the approx. 6-7 months that my illness will keep us from going to Disney? (and no, I really can't travel to DW - the chemo just makes it impossible).

Ideas? Does Disney ever do anything like this?

Thanks for your help.

I suggest that you write a personal email to guest communications spelling out your specific scenario and your request. While I bet many responses on here will be "no", i think this might be something that Disney will be willing to work with you on.

Skip the email... straight to a hard copy letter. If it's well written and you convey a solid point, given the health reasons... you might have a chance.

At the end of the day, if they say no at least you tried.

email is the preferred method of communication with Disney World Guest Communications. I know because I have used it multiple times and have always received prompt responses, follow up calls, and a dedicated Guest Communications manager with a direct line to call back to (for my larger mishap I got this). I got a free trip as a resolution to my last email to guest communications.

Snail mail does nothing but slow the process down.

I would send an email as well. We had to postpone a trip about 4 years ago due to my husband being diagnosed with cancer about 2 months before we were going to go. Disney worked with us and they were able to rebook our trip for a year later. I know its not the same situation but think Disney will be understanding.

Feel Better soon

My relative became sick with leukemia after using her annual pass just a few times. Her husband spoke to someone in Guest Relations, or Ticket Services, and they refunded her ticket and her husband's since they needed to be close to home for quite some time.

My heart goes out to you. You'll be back using that pass, and that will help in your recovery.
